Post subject: A Collingwood Legends MCG Statue ??Reply with quote

Whilst I am not overly keen on Statues, take em or leave em, really, I do think its high time the MCG Forecourt surrounds, had a statue to at least one of our legends, either McHale or Nuts Coventry, who topped the goalkicking for six decades pre Lockett. Leigh Matthews, as a Hawk player, has one now, how come the Pies haven't got just one statue at least, seeing how much our great Club has done for the League, for well over 100 years. ?? Surely, now, ITS TIME !!!! Idea Idea

Yes, we are the go to team when the AFL want something.
But they really don't give a hoot about us.
We are not ruthless in any aspect.
Goes back to the club admin!
Sorry, was that a criticism of Eddie.?????

Yes, Bob Rose outside the sterile Westpac centre.
Put up by Collingwood not the AFL or MCG trust.

Just relocate the "Giant Purse" sculpture from the Bourke Street mall to outside the MCG in honor of the what Collingwood contributes annually to the AFL and others clubs coffers.

That should fix it.

Give it up. The morons on the Team of the Century etc and the allowance of the Coventry end name to be changed at prostitute stadium says it all. We have always been made to do our own thing. We have the Jock McHale and Coventry medals and that is how far the AFL will allow us to go.

Don't give opposition supporters something to spit on.

Forget it...they've had time and have not been bothered with us.

No statue for McHale, but others who had part of their MCG success as coaches are already there; Smith, Reynolds, Coleman, Barassi, Matthews.

None of our players will get a statue, as none were deemed worthy of a place in the AFL Team of the Century.

So let's do it ourselves and put more up where Rose & Richards currently are. That's paying a proper tribute!

I don't want AFL lip service at the MCG. It's too late.

G. Coventry will be getting a statue. When? I'm not sure, but it will happen.

And Dick Lee will be elevated to Legend status, possibly in 2015.

Jock McHale and Gordon Coventry are worthy of statues outside the MCG let alone Victoria Park.

McHale is the greatest coach of all time and coached a record number of 37 years with one club and achieved seven premierships wins in the process. Sure Malthouse will break the record of the number of games coached, but McHale will always have more Premierships to his tally than Malthouse will.

Coventry was the leading all-time goal kicker until it was broken by Tony Lockett in 1999. The record lasted 62 years and should be recognised as an outstanding achievement especially in the 1930s where football wasn't as high scoring as it was during the 1980s and 1990s.

Both McHale and Coventry deserve massive recognition from the AFL and broader football community and not just within the confines of our club and that's why building a statue of the two men outside the MCG would only be appropriate and fitting, but knowing the AFL it won't happened especially as both men were excluded from the joke that we call the VFL/AFL Team of the Century.

I like the idea of Dick Lee being elevated to legendary status next year.

How about we put it at Victoria Park! The MCG is home ground to Melbourne and the slut liberals in the Long Room.

With all due respect Hiss, the G is the most famous sporting arena in the Nation, nothing else compares to it, and that's where all sporting Legends should be honoured, like betty cuthbett. That's why its an outrage not one Magpie legend has a statue there, we deserve it, surely. Idea
