Predict Crisp to be our best pick up in years.

that's good to hear. i hope so. I see a lot of kids come through under the radar and play 4-5 games when opposition puts basically nothing into them. Once they get a bit of notice teams tend to find weaknesses or simply figure out how to shut them down and the player usually returns to serviceable.

Mind you, having a team of role players like Crisp around a group of 6-8 gun players is key to building a premiership side.

In my mind, we have all of the pieces in place to win our next flag. We are just 3-5 gun players short. Sadly, i think we lost one of them today.

People always say that the winner of a trade is the team that gets the better player. That is certainly the case with this trade.

Surprised at how much bias there still seems to be against Sinclair here Laughing

The lads got blistering pace, is hard at it, and actually lifted his kicking efficiency to a point where he's now actually quite decent. Mark my words, he will be in our best 22 from round 1 onwards if fit.

Better - so on that basis, we are going backwards. Pity they wouldn't all fit in our cap!

Even without bringing in ready made replacements you could argue that we aren't too much worse off with:

Shaw - Langdon (longer term Scharenberg)
Daisy - Broomhead
Beams - Kennedy
Lumumba - Freeman

Just need to be a little patient.

Did you really say that???? I think in these 4 changes alone you can see why we have gone from premiership caliber in 2010 (when these guys were basically All-australian caliber), and today (when the replacements are each still finding their feet.

If Langdon plays the equivalent of a poor Heath Shaw game from his prime, we get all frothy at the mouth because our expectations were so low for him.

Everyone has surely forgotten how good Daisy was at his best.

You're swayed by Shaw and Daisy at their best and I agree the replacements are a bit behind that. But Shaw circa weekly brain fade 2013 and Daisy 2013 and beyond both a long long way shy of that best. Shaw turned it around this season but who can say if that would have happened if he'd remained at the Pies. Daisy didn't have an enormous impact in 2014, certainly not $700K's worth.

And I didn't say we were no worse off, I said you could argue that we're too much worse of even without replacements for Beams and Lumumba factored in.

Not sure Varcoe demands a spot, let's see how he goes preseason.

I could live with that, too, though I was disappointed with Seedsman this year, and I would want an elite kick taking our kick-outs, hence I went with Fas.

Seedsman coming off preseason hip surgery was always likely to struggle through 2014. Let's see how he goes in 2015 with a full preseason under his belt.

There are concerns with us lacking A graders in midfield but I think this A grader stuff is a bit of bullshit when it come to clearances
What you need is big bodied hard in and under types, ones with good vision and ones with quick hands sort of a mix..it's a real specialist role for mine
I think our so called A graders are quite poor at clearances
The lack of EFFECTIVE clearance really hurt us and for mine big bodies in Crisp and Greenwood are a must
I know I'm in the minority however I reckon these 2 is great recruiting
Add Freeman and Adams and this is what I call manic midfield...Thoughts ?

I like what your saying Wilko, I'm one for having some bigger bodies around the footy especially hard nuts like the Anvil, it helps our midfielders hold their own when things get physical (look at what the Hawks did to the Swanies). Big bodies like Swanny Pendles the "late" Beams and hard nuts like Ball contributed in contructing the quality breaks that we were able to excecute a few years back. Adams looks like he could step into the quality midfielder Ball was with the same hardness. When you think about it we had 4 A graders (quality of disposal and ability to construct the play coupled with hardness to win one on one contests). most of all its how well the midfield work toghethor that will determine how well we do. With a brand new midfiled it's going to take a time to get that understanding we had in 2009-2011. I still recall how quickly Ball fitted in! He was such a good player! Have no idea what Crisp can do but if we get Greenwood It will help fill the hole. Where I don't agree with you is that Beams has not ordinary skills but is an elite goal kicker especially under pressure! Bucks it's up to the coaches to mould this midfield and hopefully it will be more than competitive by April 2015.

There's some wisdom in what you say Wilko, but Crisp and Greenwood are not great kicks and neither is Adams, so you need to back them up with guys who can kick such as Fasolo, Seedsman and Karnezis. Unless Buckley can iron out the kicking deficiencies in the team over the summer, we are going into next season with a big question mark over our kicking.

Our Kicking skills compared to Hawthorn are woeful. Our answer in 2015 is to recruit more players that can't kick. Rolling Eyes

Shaw Brown Toovey
Maxwell Reid Davis
Wellingham Swan Thomas
Didak Dawes Sidebottom
Beams Cloke Brown
Jolly Pendlebury Ball
Lumumba Johnson Tarrant Krakouer

The 2011 side, best side I had ever seen, we've fallen pretty far and very fast hey.

Now it is below.

Italliced are guys coming back from serious long term injuries over the past couple of seasons who will improve the side.

Bolded are youngsters who need to improve, and I think will improve.

Toovey Brown Langdon
Williams Frost Sinclair
Sidebottom Swan Greenwood
Kennedy Cloke Broomhead
Elliott Reid Fasolo
Witts Pendlebury Adams
Grundy Karnezis Thomas Seedsman

Nearly the entire team are either going to improve the side coming back from injuries over the past couple of seasons or youngsters who show potential and should improve on least seasons output. Granted it will have nothing on the 2011 side but it will be better performed than the 2014 side barring variables such as a horrendous run of injuries like we has last year.

I have bolded Josh Thomas as I believe he is behind in development and only had a clean run, still young and potentially could have a break out year, or he could be a flop.

Will b a very interesting year with Freeman, Moore, pick 5 and other players in the mix, including Varcoe and Crisp.
