Better - so on that basis, we are going backwards. Pity they wouldn't all fit in our cap! |

Don't know why people are getting so down on the prospects of the side listed above. It's Ball, Beams, H and Maxy of our best side in 2014 and we managed to play some pretty handy footy early in the year. I know that's a pretty handy quartet but it's still only 4 players. Particularly if you factor in improved contributions from Reid, Freeman, Sinclair, Fasolo, Karnezis, Seedsman, Broomhead, Oxley, Kennedy and Brown. |

Scratch H Shaw, D Thomas, H O'Brien (whoever HE is!) and D Beams. Replace with Greenwood, Crisp, Varcoe and Armstrong...... |

Even without bringing in ready made replacements you could argue that we aren't too much worse off with:
Shaw - Langdon (longer term Scharenberg)
Daisy - Broomhead
Beams - Kennedy
Lumumba - Freeman
Just need to be a little patient. |

That center line looks soft as butter. Hawthorn would run directly through it. Sam Dwyer up against Sam Mitchell...
Where's the inside midfielder? Joshy Thomas?
No third tall defender either.
Great work, coach. |

Surely you'd have to include Didak, Jolly, Krakouer, Davis and Johnson as well. Can't believe you've let Maxwell and Ball retire either. |

That's a fantastic side CG! Brought a smile to my face!
I would probably put Lachie Keefe in over Dasher, but that's about it. Soft?! How short peoples memories are! Daisy was brilliant against Hawthorn in his last full year, remember the drag down from behind tackle to ice the Prelim? And he was near BOG in the Rd. 15 game. Harry & Heater played blinders that day too. I dearly hope that Broomhead is a similar player to Daisy, he looks to be, it's certainly what we're missing, someone with that spark of brilliance who can turn a game.
Of course the actual make-up of our Rd.1 team will be based to a large extent on NAB cup performances, (or whatever malformed abortion the AFL decide to put us through in 2015.) If Freeman shows the type of dash through the guts he did last year, and doesn't get injured, he will be in the side, Armstrong, Karnezis, Sweeper and Gault will also have the opportunity to put their claims forward, and will probably get a shot if they show enough.
But I like your squad better CG! _________________ "If at first you dont succeed...

You can't keep Sharrod(mums name Sharron, dads name Jarrod) Wellingham and Brodie Grundy, coach. We traded one for the other, remember when I explained that to you in another thread a couple of days ago? No? Well that's ok, I'm sure you're doing your best.
Daisy can't really run out a game in the middle anymore either. Neither can Swanny, so that midfield is looking a bit limited.
And still no third tall defender. Keefe must play, he's the next Nick Maxwell. Though I suppose Heater can just take the resting ruckman. He's ganna give away free kicks anyway, may as well give him an excuse. |

Time to add some seriousness here:
B. Williams N.Brown Toovey
HB. Seedsman Frost Langdon
C. Sidebottom J.Thomas Freeman
HF. Swan Cloke Adams
F. Elliot Reid Goldsack
Rucks: Witts, Pendlebury, Greenwood
Inter: Varcoe, Broomhead, Grundy
Sub: Fasolo
Emer: Keefe, Macaffer, Dwyer, Moore, Pick #5, Scharanberg
Surplus: White, Ramsay, Karnezis, Blair, Young, Marsh, Gault, Crisp, Kennedy, Sinclair, Oxley, Armstrong
Keep this team on the park and I would expect us to finish somewhere between 1st and 6th. The reality is though there will be injuries. We need our dozen or so C-graders (those on the surplus list) to become B-graders. More importantly, we need 3 or 4 B-Graders to become A-Graders. Teams like Hawthorn only have 4 or 5 C-Graders on their list, meaning they have more A and B Graders. It's a numbers game and if the numbers stack up in your favour, the inevitable happens...you win Premierships.
Just quietly, I think the "bolter" from the list of surplus players could be someone that nobody ever mentions...Ramsay. Although he struggled against the Hawks (who didn't?) I liked what I saw against GWS. Bit of Kade Simpson about him. _________________ "Give Bucks a bit of a go mate, because when Bucks was the captain he carried that team for you, he played his guts out for you

Surprised you didn't request the late inclusion of Peter McKenna! _________________ I'm not the pheasant plucker I'm the pheasant plucker's son, and I'll be plucking pheasants til the pheasant plucker comes! "Try saying that with a mouthful of peanuts!!" Lou Richards |

Did you really say that???? I think in these 4 changes alone you can see why we have gone from premiership caliber in 2010 (when these guys were basically All-australian caliber), and today (when the replacements are each still finding their feet.
If Langdon plays the equivalent of a poor Heath Shaw game from his prime, we get all frothy at the mouth because our expectations were so low for him.
Everyone has surely forgotten how good Daisy was at his best. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |
