besides: WHO READS THESE DAYS!!

I read every night even if I go to bed at 3am and have to be up at 6am I will still read for a bit! (but not the bible). Most nights I would read for about 45 minutes before I go to sleep.

Browsing nudy pics doesn't count as "reading", Ken Razz Wink

Out of curiosity, what's your subject matter? Or are you a fiction man?

Fiction mainly but I do read a few Autobiographies. I also read sports books.
I will read Julia Gillards book. Some of the authors I read are: Iggulden, Manfredi, Baldacci just to name a few.

Good stuff. I haven't read a novel in way too long. It's one of those things that takes serious disciplined focus to get back into. My mum is a novel machine and has no doubt read some of those authors you mention.

Mind you, the academic articles I read certainly have their own share of fiction in them!

I probably read between 40 - 50 books a year, my whole family is the same!

I don't think it's cute to lie to children, though, so I wouldn't be trying to convince them that Santa Claus exists. I don't like the way some Christians fetishise children's faith for that very reason; it's just a reminder that kids will believe whatever they're told.

Dear god don't rob that poor bairn of Father Christmas and the tooth fairy. Plenty of time for reality bites later!

It just seems to set a bad precedent, in my view. If I want to raise my child with the view that telling the truth is important, how can I justify lying to them about something like that?

I want him to enjoy having an imagination, of course, and to enjoy reading and creating fiction, but there's a difference between that and allowing him to sincerely believe that an imaginary character actually exists. Particularly one that can magically see if you've been good or bad. It's a bit creepy and superstitious.

I recommend starting a trust fund now to pay for the kids therapy sessions when he's adult. Wink
