besides: WHO READS THESE DAYS!!

I read every night even if I go to bed at 3am and have to be up at 6am I will still read for a bit! (but not the bible). Most nights I would read for about 45 minutes before I go to sleep.

Browsing nudy pics doesn't count as "reading", Ken Razz Wink

Out of curiosity, what's your subject matter? Or are you a fiction man?

The question is impossible to answer.
The bible is not a text book. Regardless of age, you cannot simply read a verse 100 times, be able to recite it word for word and come to your own conclusion that you understand Gods word.
It does not work that way.
At little as 5 years ago, I tried reading the Bible and you know what- I was stuck as Genesis, thinking WHAT? I don't understand any of this.
I prayed for understanding every single day, many times a day.
God I am a not worthy, you know my past, you know what I have done, you know I am a dumb shit and you expect me to understand this giant book of your instructions, lessons, love and grace- I mean seriously dude, what the....

He told me to start again, seek Him with ALL of my heart and directed me to focus simply on Jesus. I did and always will.

It is not an age thing- it is passion for God.
He will grant understanding and He will confuse and block hearts and minds He will test this passion you have inside.

In short, passion for Him, not age determines understanding of the Holy Word.

Ps. I do not know how to post you tube links from my mobile.

If anyone has the time or inclination, google Mary Margaret on Jonah, Noah etc.
And please be a dear and post link if possible. I thank you.

Kids should have FUN with the Bible. There are endless amounts of beginner Bibles that simply teach of God and of His love.
Don't start kids off with Leviticus Razz

Finally, I believe that teaching of the Bible is a parents responsibility and blessing, not the Churches.

Now if you do not mind, I am off to look for a new Church. Personally, I thought I was fine and didn't need the switch to red cordial yesterday evening. Sheesh, so judgemental Rolling Eyes

You could make a case for the new testament , Torah and the koran. Good luck with that because if you do Cat Stevens will have to obey a fatwa from some looney. Any kid who can understand the full concept of those books as they are written is destined for greatness.

I used to have to learn large slabs of the first testament, read it in "ancient hebrew" or old hebrew then recite it loud including the English translation as part of my religious education.

My dad did the same. When the rabbi said god created the world etc in 7 days dad asked the good rabbi in pre war Poland who created god? Dad was a youngster. He copped a hiding. As good a reason as any to became an atheist Wink

When the very big & scary Mr Yellen asked who here fears god my older brother as a kid in Carlton in 1960 or so said he didn't. The fearsome Mr Yellen took his belt from his waist & used it on my brother & then asked if he feared him?

Yes the Bible is effen violent. Wink

Fiction mainly but I do read a few Autobiographies. I also read sports books.
I will read Julia Gillards book. Some of the authors I read are: Iggulden, Manfredi, Baldacci just to name a few.

Maybe it's ok if she just enjoys Noah's Ark for the story (although, once you get past the cute animals, it's a pretty morbid story with a pretty questionable message).

This might surprise people, but I actually voted 'yes' in my poll. I don't believe in sheltering children; just not deliberately traumatising them. For me, the line would go something like this: Beowulf, King Arthur, The Bible are okay for pretty much any age group that can understand them (ideally contextualised as fiction), whereas I'd consider it clearly unethical to indoctrinate them into believing that hell exists.

I don't think it's cute to lie to children, though, so I wouldn't be trying to convince them that Santa Claus exists. I don't like the way some Christians fetishise children's faith for that very reason; it's just a reminder that kids will believe whatever they're told.

No need to convince me that Santa exists. He still brings me presents. Anytime I want, all year.

You'll get little argument from me. As I think you know. I don't object to paying taxes. I frequently object to how they use them and am frequently annoyed at how little many other persons and entities seem to pay.

Dear god don't rob that poor bairn of Father Christmas and the tooth fairy. Plenty of time for reality bites later!

Children are allowed to read all the other daft old fairy stories; why not this one? Anyway, kids like pointless blood and guts. They'll read anything, and seem to come out none the worse for it as a rule.
