I was wondering why they didn't change the rules of the father/son this year and I now know.
Sydney just picked up the second best player in the draft for pick 17 or so.
Imagine the difficulty the AFL would have had if Collingwood finished top 4.
Do they screw Collingwood (as they would like to do) and penalize Sydney at the same time, or do they help Sydney (as they would very much like to do whenever and however they can) but give Collingwood a benefit at the same time.
The AFL would have been spitting chips. Sadly, we let them off the hook. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

This is why I wanted the new system in this year. It wouldn't have affected us but the Swans would definitely have had to pay more for Heeney.
They also picked up two other academy players. Eddie was clearly correct when he said these rules have to change, you can't have a few teams with a constant stream of talent at significant discount. _________________ Well done boys! |

Next year the Swans will have another father-son available.
Josh Dunkley who played for the U17 Australian team.
Do we get first dibs for Sam Weideman?
So maybe they wont change the rules so soon.
Sydney Swans father-son prospect Josh Dunkley and Sam Weideman, the grandson of Collingwood champion Murray, are likely to line up in attack for the Academy.

Weideman's not eligible for father/son. Unfortunately either is Jack Wild. _________________ Well done boys! |
