It seems lots of clubs have lots of money to burn, sacking a coach before their contract expires is no big deal financially. I reckon it should cost the club double. Example, if there is 1 year left on contract worth 1 million, then they should not only have to pay that out, they should donate an equal amount to charity! And by charity, I don't mean St Kilda, Melbourne or the Doggies!

just like MM after tony Shaw!

Exactly!!! And just like the coach who replaces Buckley, IF he is dumped at the end of 2015!

There's no more thankless job in football than a list builder coach. Very few of them get to enjoy the fruit of their labour.

Agree, don't know what more he could have done.

With a list of top draft picks over the years to have their reserves side in the QFL not winning a game is a pretty damning indictment. Being senior coach means you have to take responsibility for developing a whole club program. Both sides need to play the same game plan and have similar success. I expected the Suns to achieve success much sooner anyway, but I suppose it highlights one fact. The draft is a lottery. Merely having faith in kids won't help you much if you don't have solid senior professionals alongside.

Fair call, although the club's record of failing to produce decent coaches after Jock McHale is fairly undeniable.

But I would add Nathan Buckley to Malthouse's apprenticeship fails as well. I've made the call.

The sad thing is that now the Suns will wind up with Bomber Thompson. Someone who could have made a difference at this club.

We could still snag Bolton, but he'll be gone by the time we make the call.

Why? Businesses have every right to sack people who don't perform. Remember Telstra and Sol Trajillo? Laughing

From memory Bluey was passed over for every coaching gig he went for until landing the GCS development job which preceeded the senior coaching appointment.

He never struck me as that inspired of an appointment and I reckon he was always going to be moved on once the board felt he'd served his purpose (that is blooding and developing the young kids through the early, tough times) before being replaced by a proven coach when entering premiership mode. Hello Bomber!

Anyway he's been here, done that and we don't need him again although he'd be an asset at a St Kilda or Bulldogs type club and I wish him the best.
