He is the only employee, I am not out to make a fortune in this I want to be able to pay my debts and living expenses and also try to make sure that he can live on what i pay him. I also told him that I would look after him and not work him too hard and burn him out. He works now on average about 35 hours a week and we are happy with that. When I put on another worker I will do my best to accommodate their needs. I have worked for good bosses and bad bosses and I know that I worked harder and smarter for the good bosses and I want to be known as a good employer.

Thanks for clarifying.
It does sound like you do indeed have a great grasp on the key values I listed above. Good luck mate. Sounds like this bloke is lucky to work for you. Hope he appreciates it.

Well for what is worth Ken I think you seem to be a lovely decent man!

My mum always wanted me to find a good man, marry and have a family - I found a good man, am very happily married but cancer meant no kids!

I hope your son finds a wonderful partner and they have a very happy life with each other and you , your wife and family! ( I know I am thread mixing here)

Thanks Morrigu, my eldest son came home for tea last night and his partner as well after tea we played some board games and cards, it was a great night he seems a great fella!
One night a week we all get together for laughs and games I hope it is a tradition that lasts a long time.

Mate, you go all right for an old munchkin Wink

Sunday night is a good night for family time. I also get why you asked the question about the pay rise, I get prickly about people manipulating keeping welfare benefits too but in some cases the way the line is drawn is BS so you can't begrudge them.
