It would be interesting to know how many Collingwood people
Mike has had on his program this year.
I think we would be miles in front of the rest.
Must be good for the programs ratings.
Kink was one of my favorites. |

Rene Kink could do anything!
Talent wise he was up there with the
best collingwood players of the last 50 years.
Never quite made super star status.
He was the modern footballer personified.
Fast, strong, great kick, great mark and
he had that x factor.
Summed up the late 60's, 70's conundrum
that was collingwood - brilliant but flawed.
Strange, but I would rather watch a good Kink
game than a great game from any of the current generation
of collingwood players.
Why? because it was exciting! _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

many of you will remember the player appearances at mcdonalds back in the day. kink did one at the prahran store. to a wide-eyed young collingwood supporter he was the incredible hulk. meeting him is something i will never forget. was so sad when he went to that rabble whose name i will not mention. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

I remember when he got that nickname, he had more than a passing resemblance to Lou Ferrigno who was in the TV Program The Incredible Hulk at the time. Lou Richards was the one who christened him that.
Geez if he had of got fit and focused he could have been anything back then, nowdays he wouldn't get a sniff because at 183cm he'd be too short. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Rene played for Melbourne Boys High School (part of the inducement to get kids down from the country by appealing to the parents) - he was from Ararat I'm pretty sure.
I was lucky enough to be one of the 4 or 5 to play for the Melbourne High firsts who weren't part of the VFL as it was in those days in either the firsts, seconds or thirds or the others who played for the VFA.
Kink was talented as a kid (For me Alan Edwards of Richmond, Collingwood & Footscray was by far the best). Robbie Flower did yr 12 the same year as I did but was not allowed to play for the school as was Billy Picken (a really nice guy) & Phil Manassa - who also didn't play.
I recall Kink in the fwd pocket with about 5 scotch college boys ready to tackle him simply turn the opposite way they thought he was going to turn & kick a ripper of a goal to help win the game.
I think "we" didn't lose a game in 3 years!! _________________ āI even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didnāt keep āem under long enoughā Kinky Friedman |

My sisters favourite player in the 70s. I was a wide eyed 8 year old when he made his debut in the '73 preliminary (where no less than Barry Price and Peter McKenna were overlooked. Kicked one of the most amazing goals off his left foot from 50 out against Carlton in the 1980 finals. Sadly was sucked in by Jezza in the '79 granny and probably cost us the game. He'd been in sensational form until then. Remember going to his hairdressing salon near Vic Market so my sister could get her hair styled by him and got my locks shorn as well. Had never seen biceps that big before. Collingwood's version of Sam Kekovich. _________________ Explain it to me like I'm a four year old. Ted Whitten is an AFL legend, and Bob Rose isn't? |

First semi final in 1980, I think Rene kicked 6 or 7 goals against Carlton at the G. Surely the best finals performance by a Magpie in the last 50 years?
There was a time when Kink was dropped to the reserves against Footscray at Victoria Park and had over 45 kicks and kicked 5 goals from the centre.
A fabulous talent and incredibly generous with his time for fans, young and old. _________________ Firm in the belief that number 17 flag is only months away... |

Rene Kink reminds me of another Collingwood legend named Tank O'Donohue _________________ How would Siri know when to answer "Hey Siri" unless it is listening in to everything you say? |

Warburton Lad, surely the best performance by a magpie in finals in the last 50 years was Des Tuddenham's 7 goal effort against St Kilda in the 1966 second semi final.
Rene Kink was an exciting player, but I can't forget his poor effort in the 1979 Grand Final.
In the first quarter he was reported for spitting at Alex Jesaulenko. Then (apart from a goal he got in the last quarter) he hardly got a kick and his opponent Robert Klomp, was one of the best on the ground. In a loss of 5 points those things count.
Rene Kink played in many losing Grand Finals but 1979 shouldn't have been one of them. |
