Was watching Port against Freo and kinda thought their body size not dis simalar to
Pies so a google look see came up with 5 players per side which was mixture of mids
and fwds
Port -Wingard 1.8cm /77kg Pies Elliot 1.77cm/77kg
" Boak 1.85cm/83kg " " Swan 1.85cm/92kg
" Grey 1.83cm/87kg " Pendles 1.91cm /91kg
" Shultz 1.9cm/93kg " Trav 1.95cm/108kg
" Harlett 1.85cm/83kg " Harry 1.88cm/92kg
This is only a selection but watching Port not disimalar to us
as a team body wise
They were in the forest and found their way out
and I believe we will with belief and hard work
Am looking fwd to our future and refuse to be distracted by
bad year ---We have a group simalar in body size to Port the Improver
who will be fine come experience _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

I thought it was the distance that made it hard to see players from the nosebleed sections of the G. Now I realise it's that's most players are less than 2 cm tall! Wow. _________________ "The night is a very dark time for me" Chaz Michael Michaels |

Oh sorry this was the Channel 7 broadcast so camera brings em right up
Freo had bigger talls it looked
We have Cloke & Frost who hold down consistant position just a smidge
under 2mtrs and Witts over (guess Grundy be 2mtrs) & if a miracle occurs
and the Yank fast tracks to make AFL
We work with what we have _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

Even though I think the OP's made an error with his units (shouldn't the weight be in grams?), he does make a good point. When we compare ourselves to Geelong or Hawthorn our players look a bit on the puny side. But not so compared to either Port or Freo, especially Port. What we're missing in comparison to those two teams is fitness, and this is something that we will hopefully improve over the next couple of years. _________________ Well done boys! |

Chill, Barry. You appear new to the site and may not realise how much of an all-round fun-loving place this is? It's all cuddles and sunshine between all members. No animosity or aggro and definitely no "perceptive fellow". Just like at CFC itself.
Sorry to hijack your post. I do believe we are a bit on the small side. I thought in 2009 the same thing, especially after the loss to the pussies in the prelim. I think we need some beefcake 4000 all around the ground. And a bit more mongrel. I'd love an Ollie Wines type. Can't believe he's only 19 or so. Mr Hine, please find a similar player! _________________ "The night is a very dark time for me" Chaz Michael Michaels

No error just a copy of club details on their players and yes Hawks in particular are
big bodied right across the teams they put on the paddock _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

I agree Barry; but it's more the mids that should be compared. If we compare the bodies of our mids to those of say, Freo, we look like midgets.
This was identified last trade period, but one of the young draft picks didn't make it onto the ground and won't in 2015 either. 2016 is the year we will finally get to see Sharenberg strutt his stuff. In this year's draft we need to go after bigger bodied types who can assist the smaller but clever midgets. I'm sure this will be Hine's plan. Perhaps he's hoping to trade these bodies into the team. Jack Watts anybody? _________________ After the epic draw comes the decisive knockout!

Interesting cos on Thats Good for Footy Tony Shaw was asked " If you had have been at the meeting Ed organised what question would you have asked"
And his reply "Stop recruiting midgets --they may get you to finals but big key position players win finals"
Think he has a point. _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

Hahaha well done inkling!
Barry honey, take the decimal points out! 185cm, not 1.85
Good point. I was impressed with Port last night, athletically they were fantastic. Hopefully your spot on with your predictions.
And hopefully, we get the bodies sorted soon, so we get enough players with a good preseason. Cheers, and welcome _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Not only is it about size and shape, it's about having the ability to run and cover ground. Something that most of our guys can't do. I've heard a few times that Ports players have to run 3km sub 12mins.
For instance Paul Seedsman at 190cm and 87kg (according to the CFC website) - I would've thought he'd be about 80kg - can't run out a game.
The Port guys are big strong aerobic beasts that can play multiple roles and it's enjoyable to watch.
You have to give Port credit, they've turned their club around remarkably. From the game day experience, to the recruiting and selection policies.
Hopefully Collingwood has been taking notes and tinkers with their philosophy. |
