Whilst watching Sam Mitchell being interveiwed he explained a little of Clarko.s workings which ammounted to every member of a side being a footballer capable of playing any role--so everyone is a forward,a back or a midfield
That from one of the benchmark sides of the comp and whilst they continue to have on field and recriuting sucsess it seems valid

i don't think we're so far removed from hawthorn than many believe we are. if they implement the reduction in rotations then there is going to be more versatiltiy required. you are going to need to run a lot more players through the midfield. outside of the kpps anyone should be able to play any role.

Bucks had already implemented this a while ago also. A lot of the competition does this sort of thing too, maybe not on the field, but certainly at training just in case a hole needs to be plugged on game day, or if it's required as a strategic move. Agree with the above poster we are not so far behind the 8 ball in this department at all. What Clarko probably has over the rest of the comp is his ability to coach them in these different positions is superior to most, but it's certainly not a revolutionary method that only Hawthorn have pioneered.

Totaly agree that this is the trend and I believe NB is very forward thinking
What Sam indicated the "all purpose footballer" is some thing I, m sure NB
has in mind .
Transition football is a facet of that in as much as transition and spread can
make "positions" irrelevant

That was the reason that Dawes was shunted off to Melbourne. He could only play one role which was CHF. Modern football is structured around midfielders who work from the centre square, those who work in the back half and those who work the forward half. The exemptions are the main ruck and the F/F and F/B.

After our season finished I watched Geelong -Hawks qualifying final to get a handle on how these sides (who regularly make top 4) go about it and the mids dropping back or moving fwd to create more around contest or run by to recieve was constant till Hawks maintaining it longer and better got the game
We can reach it but patience is needed

I remember MM would start new players on the HBF to develop their defensive side.
Once they showed their defensive skills they were let loose into the forward line or midfield.
I also remember the outrage by some posters that MM was developing a team of HBFers
Bucks does the samr thing eg Fasolo to the backline and posters on Nicks are outraged that a natural forward is being wasted in defense.

Clarko does it and is a genius

Edit required due to my stupidity

Come on neil, you can do better than that. His surname is Fasolo.

Dawes requested a trade because he didn't like being told he'd have to compete with Lynch for a senior spot and he wasn't assured a game.

Still think that teams will have designated KPPs who play either back or forward and there will be a push to unearth "swingmen", just don't think there are actually too many of them about.

So what is new? When we won in 2010 and were belting everyone except Geelong in 2011 we were described as being a team full of ruck rovers.

Modern trend is you're either a KPP or a runner. Runners play midfield and either back or forward. We have several who can do all three
