In the current age, should we have gender based issues? Why is it more wrong to hit a woman than a man?
Yep, in general men have a physical advantage but it doesn't hold true in all cases.
Should it just be that to hit someone is wrong and then insert the exceptions such as reasonable force is allowed for self defence.
In this Ray Rice case, if his partner was a gay man of similar height and physique, he'd be just as knocked out. Is that any less wrong?
Where I'm (clumsily) going here is, should the deciding factor be the balance of power, whether that be physical, mental, economic etc that is the deciding factor rather than gender?
(I think I'm channeling David or something, I may need to apply alcohol. Stat.) |
Shouldn't matter, it's still a big bully beating up someone a lot smaller. |
That's the point I'm mangling. Even size isn't that relevant, strength and skill is. A 60kg martial artist is going to be able to knock around an 80kg couch potato. |
True, and why I always advocate for harsher sentencing. I guess it's just more shocking to see a bloke smash a woman, especially one that's 50 kg, dripping wet!
How about we all just keep our hands to ourselves?
But even if you agree, I'm open to the alcohol suggestion! _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

You must be channeling me, because I completely agree with you. Context matters, of course, but gender alone shouldn't. As you say, concussion isn't less harmful because you happen to be male and built like Arnold Schwarzenegger. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Here's Rin Nakai from Japan. 5 foot 1 but built like a brick shithouse.
Has done martial arts since she was 3, has a 16-0-1 record (that's 16 wins and a draw) as aMixed Martial Arts professional and has just joined the UFC. I would say she could probably legit kick the arse of 60% of the male population.
Gender should be completely irrelevant. |
