Karnezis is yet to debut for the club. How good he is is yet to be determined.
Grundy and Witts aren't yet capable of influencing the contest as forwards.
How long before they can? Will they ever?
White didn't live up to expectations. He mightn't improve.
Reid was out injured and struggled up forward on his return.
Cloke had an improved second half but it was only an average season by him with much more expected.
Cloke remains our only legitimate tall forward threat of quality at present.
Reid has the capability to become one but will he or will he go back to defence?
Given all that and with the retirements of Lynch and Hudson I'd be open to the club taking a punt on Clark if he gets a medical clearance. |
As I said in my initial post "Not too sure he fulfills an existing need but at the right price wouldn't be the worst addition to the list"
I'm not discounting any of what you've said about the players I've listed as tall forwards but it doesn't discount the depth we have in that area already. The fact he's a reasonable ruckman mitigates that a little given we've lost the backup of Hudson however limited list sizes mean there are limits to the number of these types you can carry. |

Nobody is ever cured of mental health issues, they acquire management tools and coping strategies. |

Was that meant to be funny Defender? It wasn't, it was just rude.
I am not for a moment suggesting we take an unfit player onto the list.
But to make light of something that's a pretty serious issue and continues to carries enormous stigma (perhaps because of comments like that) isn't right.
Unlike jackass I speak from both personal and professional experience. _________________ Go Pies!! |

Have you seen our forward line?
Have you seen the age profile of our list?
He fulfills two needs if he's considered good enough and gets his body and mind right.
Those are a couple of big question marks hanging over his head that's for sure. |
Yep and yep.
Got Cloke, Reid, White, Witts, and Grundy on the list already. Marsh is a promising project player. Moore likely to be added at the draft. Gault as a development project. Karnezis on the list. Just wonder how many tall forward options we need is my issue. Clark probably offers something a little different but still another tall forward. |
Moore, Gault and Marsh are all unknowns at AFL level and are years away from being able to play consistent football even if they make it.

Totally agree Swoop...
We have a focus on developing kids no doubt but we need some mature bodies out there to do some of the heavy work and provided needed depth - Clark is worth a close look.
I would like to see Young dropped because plenty of kids could play his role - seedsman comes to mind as a better outside player. The younger guys are not quite there to play the role Clark could provide over the next year or two. _________________ Love us or Hate us... we are Collingwood - you can't ignore the Mighty Magpies!!! |

People seem to like drawing conclusions on people's mental state without knowing anything about them.
Mitch Clarke was suffering from his own personal issues, issues that none of us can actually be fully aware of if they're not ours. How does anyone actually know what was causing them? Simply playing for the Demons and the pressure related to that might have been as far away from the source of his troubles as possible.
At the end of the day, if he and the club felt that he was in a good place mentally and physically I'd be fully supportive of him coming to the club. At his best he's a very good footballer and would be a fantastic contributor to our forward line. |

But this is coming from a player (Clark) who was on his way to Freo, then for no reason, jumps ship to Melbourne?
In my mind, I think he could be trouble...more trouble then Rudd and Gillard combined!
Yes he is experienced. But his body has been problematic another thing Collingwood need like a hole in the head is player prone to injury. |

I'm apprehensive about Mitch Clark making a comeback, especially at Collingwood.
His mental state may be better, his foot problems may be better and his fitness may be underdone. It all could come down to the fact he hasn't gone through the rigours of being an AFL footballer.
I'd be concerned that it all could come crushing down once he starts up again.
I'd like the club to look at Mitch Thorp again this off season. He's moved to Glenelg in the SANFL as a playing assistant to improve his chances after a strong season in 2013 for the TSL. |

It's a big if, but if he gets himself right, Lamumba for him as a straight swap could be a good outcome for all parties, clubs and individuals. _________________ 'Collingwood are the Bradmans of Football'

Watts.
I'm not against signing Clark though, it all depends on his commitment and his physical readiness (I'd be more worried about the latter). I'm not too worried about his mental state, everyone has issues and there is always the potential for them to become unmanageable. If he's ready to play and the club think he's worth a shot, then go for it.
Before he went to Melbourne I saw him as exactly the player we needed and if he got back to his best he'd be a huge get. _________________ Well done boys! |
