Wouldn't fuss me, either way, David. The boy wants to see Iommi play the guitar and I'm not going. Neither of us would go the next room to hear Oz sing. |

To be honest, I'll be very surprised if he isn't. If the Minister for Women gets her way, three musicians and one boxer will have been denied entry to Australia this year. I don't suppose you can guess what they had in common.
In all seriousness, I would prefer if these visa refusals never occurred, unless there was actual, substantial public safety risk. Brown's dome his time and deserves to be considered rehabilitated. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

They all have been convicted of Domestic Violence?
Does Ozzy have a conviction?

Ozzy has a conviction for committing burglary as a teenager. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

Which would be 40+ years ago, and no conviction for domestic violence so Davids case about implied racial discrimination implodes. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

In regards to domestic violence, the stories about Ozzy and Sharon are well-known but I can't find anything to suggest he's been convicted for domestic violence offences despite being arrested for such offences in the past.

Unless you're taking an explicitly legalistic approach to this, 'implodes' is a bit of an overstatement. In each case, the incidents of domestic violence (serial, in Ozzy's case) are well known, on the public record and not denied by the perpetrators. When you consider that the decision to block someone from the country is less of a legal formality and more of a vague "is x a good bloke?" judgement, this does start to feel a lot more like a double standard.
There are other examples besides Osbourne of white blokes with a history of domestic violence being allowed to tour here: the drummer and lead singer of Motley Crue and the lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots were just a couple of examples from the last few years. All three were convicted, I believe.
I'm not saying that conscious or even subconscious racism is necessarily in operation here. I just think it's worth pointing out that there seems to be a bit of a trend of banning African-Americans of late. It'd be interesting to see whether the statistics bear this out. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Australia isn't the only country to refuse Chris Brown a visa as Britain, Canada and New Zealand also declined.
David Irving denied a visa - white yes?
Julien Blanc - visa cancelled - white yes?
Don't see an African- American trend myself - see a failed the documented character test for visa trend. _________________ “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” |
