Two players that were picked up later in that draft were Bernie Vince and Andrew Swallow!!

And a few years ago, with a pick #1 Melbourne took Watts Wink

Picks in the early 20's are pretty valuable nowadays.

Drafting is far better now. There will always be cases where an early pick is stuffed up. It's an inexact science. But we seem to do a better job than most. It appears to be our strength and trading in appears our weakness.

The more I think about it, I'd be happy to get pick 4 & 24 off Lions for Beams (and that is unders. Actually, I'd prefer to keep Beams, but that is unlikely) and pick 22 off Melbourne for H.

Then use all of them in the draft.

Pick 4
Pick 8 (Darcy Moore)
Pick 22
Pick 24
Pick 26

* assuming Dees get pick 3 for Frawley they'll all be +1.

That should at least yield 3-4 100-200 gamers and hopefully at least 2 of them will be absolute guns (i.e. top 50 AFL players).

I reckon the minimum for Beams MUST be pick 4 and a really good young player. Nothing less, including their 2 nd round pick.
Collingwood HAVE to play it as tough as they can if they hold all the cards as has been stated. Rolling Eyes

^ But it has to be a player we want. If their not willing to give up at Mayes, Hannely, Rickliff, Rich or Aish or similar, then there is not much else worth taking. Who else do you suggest?

Taylor won Rising star, but we don't want another midget. We have enough!

I'm happy for Pies to play hard ball to get one of them with pick 4. But there is no point in getting some spud as the steak knives. I'd much rather pick 24.

Other than those players listed above, we've probably got better already on our list. So we are better off getting pick 4&24 and picking what we want in the draft that is worthwhile, rather than what the Lions are happy to toss away.

A fast midget with the ability to kick mercurial goals is actually EXACTLY what we need.

Correct, people need to get over this midget $h!t, a good footballer is an asset.......height matters less and less in modern football

One of the above mentioned. Otherwise no deal. Beams remains on our list next year, end of bloody story. We simply CANNOT get creamed on this deal. No way known.

I've got the feeling it will be H for Clarke & a round 3 swap of picks to favour us from Melbourne.
