Post subject: What's happening with Dayle Garlett? | |
|
Does he go into the first (national) draft? Or the one for delisted players?
And if so, he's not on any of the mock drafts I've read and the media seems to have gone off him.
He's probably not worth the risk at pick 10, but if he was still there at pick 67 would you bite?
If Gomez Adams is moving in with Luke Ball, Garlett should move in with Nick Maxwell (or maybe Des Tudenham). If he misbehaves, he may turn up to training in a pine box!
It would be VERY tempting to take him at 67 and tell him reform or out - he could make (essentially) 7 first round draft picks in 2 years, though I suspect if clubs are convinced he's reformed, he will go before pick 67.
Interesting thought though.

Expect he'll go before 67 and not sure that Bucks, having cleared out perceived troublemakers and read the riot act in recent seasons, will draft this guy. _________________ One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership |

I doubt we'll draft beyond our two first round picks and garlett won't be in the mix.
If he's still available in the rookie draft then hell yeah. Get him to Melbourne away from his mates and temptation, into a professional environment, well worth a punt.
Just not with a top 10 pick. Those should be high reward, minimal risk. garlett is potential high reward but also high risk. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Talk that teams like Gold Coast, North Melbourne and Hawthorn will be looking at him as a 30+ pick. He's gonna be an absolute steal if he really gets serious about making a career for himself. _________________ Well done boys! |

St Kilda apparently sniffing around him as well.
Kid is a jet, would love him at Collingwood, but Buckley has decided that the place needed surgery to cut away dead cultural flesh, so drafting Garlett would look to run counter to that.
Pity. |

On the other hand, if we've done the surgery he would be coming into a culture that just wouldn't tolerate nonsense so he'd know exactly where he stood from day 1. The risk in picking him is that he can't commit the way we would want and we end up sacking him. He's not going to change or upset our culture, he'll either conform or shoot himself in the foot. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

That's a good point.
I just don't think Buckley sees it that way.
But for a late pick in a draft Hine considers to be not all that deep, by all means, I would give him a go. But Buckley won't. |

Can't see us taking him with 6 or 10 and I think he'll be gone by our next pick. Same with Thorpe.
One was a top 10 pick and the other a touted top 10 pick and you can see teams that are locked out of the early rounds (Essendon & Adelaide) grabbing them, as well as teams like Brisbane who have turned over a lot of players for draft picks.
If either is available at 67 then I'd be happy for the club to grab them. |

Agree but I too reckon there is a snow flake's chance of either player being available at pick 67. However we all remember Grundy last year....... |

In a thin draft he will get snapped up you'd think, and in my opinion he is worth the punt. At the end of the day he either stuffs it up or turns his life around, and if the later happens then a club has one very good footballer on their hands. I think the pies have the resources to help him get on track but again, surely he will be gone by pick 67. Krak would have been handy as a mentor has we of rookie'd him this season as well! |

News Limited are saying Garlett is being (actively) looked at by Hawthorn. _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

S Kilda or Eessendon would be good for the lad, having such strong cultures to iron out his discipline issues. _________________ Buon Giorno |
