Nathan Freeman hurt his hamstring in a practice match against Geelong. A few days later the club announced that he would miss 3 to 4 weeks. A few weeks later Rodney Eade announced that Freeman had "pinged his hamstring". Nathan Freeman didn't play a game all year. Last Monday night Davoren said that it was the worst hamstring/tendon injury he had ever seen. Why weren't we told this during the year. Didn't the club trust the public (including us supporters)with this information?
Early on we were told that Adam Oxley would miss a few weeks due to (if I remember correctly) hip issues. Adam Oxley didn't play all year. In fact, he wasn't even mentioned in most of the injury reports.
The news regarding Ben Reid's "progress" kept changing. Perhaps he kept re-injuring himself. Perhaps the predictions were just plain wrong.
Why does the club treat us like mushrooms, by feeding us sh*t and keeping us in the dark? |

Shit can also be great fertiliser...
I would hope the club could be more honest in future about player injuries - they might of thought that providing a positive outlook was the best way to handle them - particularly given the power of a doom and gloom perspective to create an environment of panic and amplification of negativity... hey it was the key strategy of the LNP leading up to the last election and it does have power - the power of perception! _________________ Love us or Hate us... we are Collingwood - you can't ignore the Mighty Magpies!!! |

perhaps, just perhaps, the club didn't know. if they did know how would the club benefit by not disclosing the information? the only thing i can possibly think of is not wanting to dishearten its supporters. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

To be fair to the club it's policy of disguising its state of injuries goes back to the Malthouse years, where revealing too much public information provides too much ammunition to opposition clubs. Also, the true state of Freeman's hamstring problems wasn't evident till the end of the year. |

I'll give you 2 words to consider
Cyril Rioli
Yes the hawks star who now has been down with a hammy for the 3rd time this season and clarkson stating he doesn't know when now he will play again because he isn't responding to the treatment as they had first thought.
They originally said 6 weeks then 8 weeks now it's indefinite.
Clarkson said the problem was he tore it at high speed running which has poised greater then first imagined.
Now I'm not sure how freeman did his originally but it seems these high speed tears are worse.
Every day we hear of people who have medical problems that doctors say they are puzzled so why should a football department be any different.
After last years loss to the power everyone was bemoaning the fact we were to slow and unfit to match them.
Buckley said the same in his presser after the game.
He decided to increase the work load dramatically and I think we gambled on the players being able to handle it.
Some have some haven't. Some had other issues from previous season (swan) and had late or not existent pre seasons.
Many of the young players would never have imagined they would play such critical roles this year (Frost, Langdon) and handle it well for the most part.
Going forward one would hope we have learned from this year and manage players individually and with a touch of luck going forward. |

A balanced and mature opinion and very close to reality imo. |

have you ever had a injury? needed scans, xrays or CT's? takes time to have them done, pass them onto doctors/specialists, treat the injury and hope it responds and when it doesn't try something else, these are human beings not machines, it's not as simple changing the spark plugs, the human body is frail and it is not always easy the heal and repair.
besides which, everything the Club tells us it is also telling the media, carlton, richmond and the rest, I've got no problem with the Club playing it's cards close to its chest and give the barstards nothing. _________________ Pain heals, Chicks dig scars, Glory..... lasts forever! |

MagpieMad, if we're going into a big game and one of our star players is under a cloud, I'm all in favour of our club playing its cards close to its chest.
That doesn't explain why we were kept in the dark regarding Freeman. |

What are you exactly after. An in depth analysis of an Injured players rehab progress? Would you even understand it?
I have had a serious ankle injury while playing footy, and as little as anyone else, other than rehab, coaches and team mates, knew the better.
I never saw the need to discuss this with anyone outside of the sanctum and I really do not understand what anyone outside of the sanctum could benefit from knowing more. _________________ All this may be summed up in one word - CHARACTER - and if that is not worth developing, nothing is.

I like mushrooms.
Sautee some in butter with some diced onion, add in some green and black peppercorns, add cream and simmer for a while and you get the best steak sauce known to man. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Geezuz Stui! You're not the club's chef are you? That would explain some of our speed problems! Congestive heart disease isn't good for players, well, except for KPPs. _________________ "If at first you dont succeed...
