Exactly what I was thinking when I heard the news. Moving clubs doesn't change anything, Ryder could still be suspended by ASADA.

Big risk to take. Particularly if you sign someone with that a known factor, you may have to pay them while they're suspended.

Punishments can be as low as a month if a player pleads guilty, and he'll then be able to go to any club he desires. Which is really punishing Essendon, which IMO, is what they want. They being ASADA, AFL, etc.

Essendon have just rejected Port's offer of pick 16 for Ryder.

Ess would never send him our way. But we could easily trump Ports pick 16.
