Would have been interesting to see how the MCC attendant and the Media would have reacted if a Collingwood supporter had racially taunted a Hawthorn player.

The slur was overheard by a group of Brazilian Collingwood supporters a few rows away, sparking a verbal row, according to a spectator who contacted The Age.
Supporters from both teams who overheard the comment subsequently called for the Hawthorn fan – a man aged in his late 20s – to be evicted from the match.
However, the spectator told The Age that when an MCG attendant came over to defuse the incident, he sat joking with the man and his friends, and declined to kick them out.
The spectator – who did not want to be named – said the MCG attendant instead motioned to the crowd that there were "only a few minutes left in the game" so evicting the man wasn't necessary. |

I don't want to be too dismissive, but it's such a fine line. I get how telling, say, a black American to "go back to Africa" can be aggressive and threatening and an explicitly racial slur, but how by the same token this sort of thing could be said in jest (kind of like me yelling at Barry Hall to get a haircut) and be relatively harmless. Tone of voice and intent probably play a role, but I'm not sure MCG security guards are exactly trained in nuance.
The question, then, is what do you do? Take a zero tolerance approach on anything that could be vaguely construed as racism, or give people the benefit of the doubt and only prosecute the obvious cases? I'm not sure, but I think I lean towards the latter.
I'm sure some will disagree. That's good, because I think it's an interesting and important discussion to have. |

Not a racist comment, But don't know why people even worry, Hawks time wil come when things start to slide. The hero's retire and their fans (including this twat in the article) have to do the long walk at three-quarter time when the side is trailing by 80 points. Karma is a b-ach like that

Heritier has himself made much of his Brazilian origins, and so he is hardly being ascribed something that carries negative meaning in his mind. No issue.
