11 wins 11 losses...
a good first half - 8 wins and 3 losses
a poor second half - 3 wins and 8 losses
Membership numbers high
Crowd attendance low
Some old champs departing... Maxy, Ball,
Some young champs emerging... Broomhead, Langdon,
Solid wins against old foes Blues, Bummers, Tigers, Dees
Spanked by some bottom feeders - Dogs, Gold Coast, Lions
Bux did a great job in the media spotlight -
Bux did a poor job on game day moves
Great record in NSW continues
Poor record in WA continues
Team selection was often dubious - short term pain
Team selected exposed youth to plenty of footy - long term gain
A very balanced year but on the 'balance of the year' our injuries (for whatever reason) were excessive and destroyed any chance of competing in finals! _________________ Love us or Hate us... we are Collingwood - you can't ignore the Mighty Magpies!!! |

I see the Suns have activated their compensation pick which will be after Geelong's first round pick. And don't Essendon get a late first rounder as a slap on the wrist for their bringing the game into disrepute ??? _________________ A strong man stands up for himself ... a stronger man stands up for others. |

I predicted most of the year that we would end up 6th - 8th. At the midway point it looked like I have under estimated the team. A the end of the home and away season we were on our knees.
You cannot blame the coach or the club as the injuries were a massive influence. Yes - I am as disappointed as the next guy but it is what it is.
We may not have got it right from a training fitness perspective but if you stand still in this sport you become yesterday contender very quickly. (Just look at the A'ints as an example) Hopefully the club will be a lot more successful in this area next year.

Far better than st vomit, our opponents in the GF four short years ago, strange how the "perceptive fellow" let them off the hook, but we have massive injuries, three acls, heaps of kids, yet we get crucified by the sack brigade. They don't mention st vomits fall do they eh ?? _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

The only thing we did wrong was allow ourselves to be infected by the A'ints fitness coach. |

Negatives - this season was an absolute shocker. not one of those bad from start to finish seasons like 1982, but like 1974, 1997 and 1984 - started off well but could not sustain it. I have always thought 1974 was the worst but this one comes close.
At the halfway point we were 8 wins 3 losses. Who could have predicted the loss to finals contenders, the losses to no hopers like Footscray, the injuries, the loss of morale.
A season like this needs to be looked at harshly. |
1974 the season I had blanked from my mind now I remember

Our coach still needs to improve his tactical 'nouse' skills, and maybe a few others. I'm not saying he's a complete lost case, and yes obviously injuries have not been kind to him... but there are certainly things lacking - hopefully he's learning from the lessons before him and will be better prepared next time round - "perceptive fellow" out _________________ All Aboard!! 2014 :
Good: Beating the filth twice, fixing up Sydney , North , silencing Richmond's stupid drummers. The emergence of Jack Frost. Marley getting a suspended sentence . Josh Thomas, Taylor Adams , Keefe, Witts , Grundy and Langdon all developing as players. The insane grin of Corey Gault. My favourite moment of the year Swannie killing the bombers
Bad: The Bullfrogs loss, Gold Coast match. Bad team selection leaving N.Brown out against the crows. Maxwell forced to play on carlisle . The Q stick's broken leg. Kyle Martin yet to get tatts. And too many bloddy injuries tragic seeing this happen again and again. Hang in there Caff and Chopper. _________________ " Ohhh Banksy and out comes the Note Book".

Worst year in almost a decade, injuries aside.
Wouldn't want another like it anytime soon; 2 in a row would be unbearable _________________ "The last thing he expected WAS THE FIRST THING HE GOT!!!!!"

Look at it this way....
With all the injuries, youngest getting game and poor draw, we finished the same as more fancied lists like Crows, Eagles & the next big thing Suns + still way ahead of the filth..
Better draw and hopefully no injury curse, next year should see us climb back up..
Let's get our trades & draft right ( meaning no more midgets ) and then bring on 2015. |
