Is there anyone here who brews their own beer or wine and spirits, who wants to discuss equipment and recipes on here?
At the moment I'm making a golden ale but I'm adding crystal malt and nelson hops for some extra oomph and flavour. Think James Squires golden ale with a hoppy bite and a big malt flavour. |

Your're adding crystal must be some home brew _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

Wish I could engage but I haven't started yet. Bought a Mr Beer on clearance from Target just to get the basics down though. Going to start it today I reckon. Looking forward to messing up my first one. |

I knew that was going to attract some attention the moment I typed it. Should have used some sort of code or street slang instead |

Just embrace the process and go in with an open mind. That and follow the instructions. Be prepared to make mistakes and learn from them. What sort of beer are you going to make? Also be willing to think outside the box too and consider what other hops and ingredients you could use to improve your brew and always get your hands on the best quality ingredients too. Your local brew shop will be able to sort you out. |

I've made beers with mates in the past but I have my own gear now because I want to do my own thing. The last one I made was a feral smokey porter with a mate of mine and it turned out really well. Do you brew? |

I like to use the saflager23 yeast, adds fruity elements to my version of Coopers pale ale, a couple of drops of concentrated liquid hops tops it of nicely. _________________ Genesis 1:1 |

I did for a while, back when I was a student. I had a several drinkable batches (drinkable for a student, that is, doubt that I'd be too keen on them now) a couple of truly dreadful ones even I couldn't drink, and a couple of excellent brews you wouldn't mind paying ful price for over a bar.
Then, quite by chance, I got a holiday job at the local brewery. That was the end of the home brewing. In those days you got all the beer you could drink after work in the company bar (there were theoretical limits and health and safety rules, but within reason you could drink as much as you liked every day for an hour or two) and heavily discounted slabs every pay day. (You filled out an order form and it came out of your pay. The price was just enough to cover the tax plus a bit more, so something less than half the lowest price you'd ever see in a shop.) There was a limit on those freebies too, but it was pretty generous and by the time I had to go back to uni a few months later I had slabs pilled up to the kitchen ceiling. It took months to drink them all.
Curiously enough, there in the Ballarat Brewery we made the Carlton Draft (and also Guinness) but our own local drop, Ballarat Bitter, was made in Abbotsford! _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

It is a pain washing bottles but you get used to it. I've got a kitchen floor full of them at the moment in preparation for the golden ale. |

I'm going to use the safale-us05 with crystal malts (to give it a more intense flavour, deeper colour and some sweetness too) and nelson sauvin hops. I'm going to steep half and dry hop the rest in order to try and intensify the hop flavour. The nelson sauvin hops should give it a nice fruity flavour. |
