Bishop seems to be the obvious choice right now. She's an old fashioned nasty large-l Liberal minus the fringe nuttery of Abbott and co. |
A ticket of the two could be interesting.
I could see Bishop as PM and Turnbull as treasurer, I can't see the reverse, I don't think Bishop could do treasurer. Turnbull could do PM. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

The Asbestos Witch is worse than Abbott, much worse. Abbott's evil intent is blunted by his incompetence, inability to compromise, and weird nut-case obsessions. Bishop's evil intent is planned, organised and intelligently directed towards her nasty, anti-Australian ends. Give me Abbott any time.
But let's put that to one side and imagine that neither one is leader - have Turnbull or whoever you like. Now think about it: who is going to be on the front bench? Who are the senior ministers going to be?
Yep, we will have the likes of Pyne, Abetz, Cormoran, Hockey, Hunt, Morrison and Brandis running the joint - the cackling upper-class schoolboy even his mother can't stand, the old 1950s right-wing head-case, the Dr Strangelove of economics, the clueless buffoon, the hopelessly compromised yes-man, the modern-day Himmler, and Australia's answer to Eugene McCarthy.
Funny thing, we don't seem to feel any better for the change. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

You could say that by simply reviewing the ALP talent and still be correct. If Shorten is the best Labor has to offer, pray that someone blows up Parliament house during a full session of both houses and all parties have to start again from scratch.
However, sometimes if you put a decent leader in place they can get even the biggest collection of nuffies to pull together and do good things. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

^ you are dreamin'. The ALP has at least a half-dozen very competent members, plus the usual swag of time-servers and the odd dud. Not as many as you'd wish for, but enough to do the job. The Liberals have, at best, three front-benchers of any quality - Morrison, Bishop and Turnbull - two of them horribly tainted by past crimes against humanity (present crimes in the case of Morrison) and the other one crippled by his gutless abandonment of principal over climate change and further crippled by his comprehensive mismanagement of the NBN rollout. And those three are their best!
Nowhere in the parliamentary Labor Party do we see out-and-out lunatics like Abetz and Senator Bestiality, or dangerous snots like Pyne, give them that much. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

I don't get the (even backhanded) praise for Morrison in so many quarters. Is it his ability to look Stern and Serious as he announces another arbitrary breach of human rights?
I'm sure Cory Bernardi could also excel in the portfolio of Persecuting Gays & Muslims if it existed. Wouldn't make him an effective or praiseworthy politician. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Hey David, when you are a fan of the Nasty Party, why wouldn't you love the cruelest and nastiest of them all? Why wouldn't you want him to come and bugger up the prospects of your children too? Oh no, wait, that's Pyne. got confused for a moment there. Sorry. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

From an Age contributor, on the Liberal Party in-fighting, particularly between Credlin and Bishop: Marooned on Everybody Hates Me Island, with nothing to eat but energy sapping polls, the crew of the Noalition began to contemplate cannibalism ... _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

Morrison is getting shit done and the only people he's pissing off are rusted on lefties. He's also managed to do it without any major missteps or embarrassing 'gotcha' moments. The government said they'd stop boats from coming here and have largely been successful. All the bad press reads very well in The Age or your resident Feminist/socialist Facebooker rant but doesn't move the needle in the electorate. Boats not coming = good is as far as it gets out in the real world.
Put Morrison's performance next to Abbott, Hockey, Pyne or Turnbull in their portfolios and it might start to make more sense. |

In another article in the Guardian by Lenore Taylor:
"That ministers hear about policy decisions affecting their own portfolios when they are leaked to the media. Backbenchers hear about most government decisions that way. The treasurer didn’t know his own departmental secretary had been sacked. Senior Department of Foreign Affairs officials complain they have to try to piece together what has happened at important prime ministerial meetings with foreign leaders, because Dfat officials have been excluded and no one has taken notes."
If tru it is concerning that high level discussions in Foreign Affairs are being kept secret. Are they selling the farm and not telling anyone, including their own colleagues? Could be why Warren Ench in particular has chosen to comment. |

So much for Rudd being a control freak (well, he was, but it seems Abbott is his equal on that front).
Frankly, though, I don't even care who's right or wrong here. I'm just enjoying seeing them implode. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

I'll quote this as it's not mine but someone on FB and says it all about Abbott. He has no idea.
Quote: | When our Minister for Women, Tony Abbott, was asked to nominate his top achievements in 2014 in his "portfolio", he said:
"Well, you know, it is very important to do the right thing by families and households. As many of us know, women are particularly focused on the household budget and the repeal of the carbon tax means a $550 a year benefit for the average family."
Tony Abbott said he was "proud" to elevate a number of women in his cabinet reshuffle. Two women in cabinet. AMAZING right? So praise worthy right?
Tony Abbott also spruiked his "fair dinkum" paid parental leave scheme, one that has been revised countless times and remains opposed by many. |

That was pretty hilarious, I have to say. Though more credit to the interviewer for putting him on the spot with such a great question. I mean, what else could he say? His 'portfolio' hasn't exactly been high on his agenda this year. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |
