Post subject: James Frawley.....any interest? | |
|
James Frawley is an unrestricted free agent. At seasons end he can go to the club of his choice. Melbourne, even though lacking quality players, may well shift him on.
If Melbourne come last, which is likely, and if they receive compensation for losing Frawley, they could end up with picks 1 & 2 in the draft. They lose one of their few decent players, but win big in what is touted to be an excellent draft. They may well not stand in his way.
Should we be interested? He'll be 26 next year. A capable, strong key position defender. Hmmm |

He's worth a look. We currently have Brown, Keeffe and Frost, along with Reid. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

He has an 800k price tag on his head to move clubs according to the Herald Sun today. Not sure he's worth that much to us. |

Someone will.
Free Agency will lead to many players getting overpaid. We've already seen it with Franklin, Tippet, Shaw, Thomas and Betts. |

Surely he's only worth an end of round 1 compensation pick. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

This gives us an AA swingman in Reid and an AA defender. I'd negotiate the price down, but YES we need him. Cloke needs Reid up forward and our defence is small and suspect. yes, yes, yes. Where do I sign?
Remember we won in '10 thanks to defenders and lost in '11 when ours went down. In fact, this should be Buckley at the meeting.

I have my doubts. I would consider $650k as generous for Frawley, $800k is just dumb. He's doing the right thing though. Golden rule in negotiating is start high. |

^the scum spent all their money on Daisy. Only way they'll get Frawley is if they let Gibbs walk. |

Who does he get a game in front of at Collingwood?
Not Reid, who should be playing as a defender when he gets back.
Not Brown, who is a better defender than most give him credit for.
Maybe Keeffe, who is yet to cement himself, but will with time.
Maybe Frost, if he stalls in his development, which is unlikely.
800 grand for a player (al beit a good one) who gives us depth in a position we already have an abundance in? No thanks.
Would much rather we save our money for Dangerfield in 2015... _________________ I am vengeance. I am the night. I am MagpieBat. |

See this is where the comp pick system fails because no way known does Frawley warrant a potential top 3 selection.
Hopefully the AFL only award the demons an end of round 1 selection should he leave. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

No real interest in him - but I have to say he played a splendid game today against the Blooz. Great effort. Perhaps they'll pay the $800K he wants? |

Has this happened before? I know the starting point is for teams to be awarded a pick straight after their existing pick in the round nominated. Which is why we got decent compensation for Daisy and the Hawks only a late first round pick for Franklin. It's not meant to be fair compensation, but part of equalisation.
The sooner they remove compensation the better anyway. When you lose a player, you've freed up the cap space to replace him, there's no need for any draft picks to be added. As it stands, whenever a highly paid player leaves you're basically replacing him with two players. That's why the loss of Daisy didn't hurt too much. _________________ Well done boys! |
