Indeed, Collingwood hasn’t fielded many less experienced sides in its modern history than that which took the field against the Crows. No fewer than 10 players for the Pies still have less than 50 senior games to their names.
That’s more than even the Western Bulldogs, a team viewed as a classic example of a side rebuilding upon youth, played in their last game against Essendon.

i think, herein, these two statements outline why we are where we are at. we are very youthful.
inexperience is going to take its toll at some point. reasonably, you can expect them to tire in the back half of the season. it is a steep learning curve for many of our young guys, particularly for the newcomers; they're in a new environment, adapting to a new lifestyle, new regimen, game plan, professionalism and external pressures.
i'll be disappointed if we do not make finals - i think we still can - but i will be far from devastated if we bomb. sometimes shit just don't happen like we want it to.[/quote]
This misses the point....
It's not the young and inexperienced players that are the problem or cause of frustration. It's the senior or premiership players who can't seem to hit a target or stay on their man that is the biggest issue.
Blair, Goldsack, Lumumba, Toovey, Swan and Cloke to an extent have been very poor this year.
Sidebottom and Caff has been up and down.
Maxwell, Pendles, Beams very good when they've played.
White as an experienced recruit has been very poor whilst a premiership player in Young has been ok but dropped and absolute sitter that could've won the game against GCS.
That's all before we even talk about the young and inexperienced players.
I'm sick of this "we have the youngest this and that"....it's our core players that have been utterly disappointing.
Most of the youngsters can kick better than so called senior players, therein lies the problem. | What happens the rest of the time? |

i don't disagree with your point about our senior players. that too has played a part. those that have made it on to the park have not performed, on the whole, to the level we expect or know they are capable of. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

interestingly, the commentators observed just the opposite on sunday night. They were lamenting that the core group were doing their part but were not being supported by the large group of inexperienced players out there.
I thought blair and Harry L in particular were excellent on Sunday. goldsack stopped a very talented player from having any effect on the game and the caff was serviceable by any definition.
It was the likes of Martin, Seedsman and others that were making the errors.
By the way, one thing i agree with ccompletely is that Whitre has bee na huge letdown (although i think it was well known that he wasnt reliable in Sydney). His problem is he cant mark (much like Chris Dawes). this is only a problem because we need him to. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

^White at least kicked two on the weekend as the 3rd or 4th option which is what he was selected for. Handled the ruck duties OK as well.
Reid and Elliott had trouble holding grabs upon return on the weekend. Let's see how things go over the next 3-4 weeks with some continuity in the forward line. _________________ One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership |

Blair and Lumumba were very good....this week.
Blair as a small, forward has been none existent all year.
Harry did one of the dumbest kicks in the dying stages of the bulldogs game that ultimately cost us a chance of victory by blazing away at defensive 50 towards a 1 on 2 contest. I couldn't believe that a senior premiership player would take that option players who were free and streaming down down to create options for him. Instead he blazed away.
Whenever Geelong needed someone to stand up, it was always their core group of premiership players that lifted the team.... _________________ - Side By Side - |
