Until they established GWS and GCS and it became an 18 team competition, I was always thought the conference concept was good. You'd have 2x 8 team conferences, teams would play the other tems in their conference twice and the teams of the other conference once which would still give you a 22 game H&A season. Haven't given any thought to how it could/would be structured to accommodate 18 teams although I guess the way the draw was contrived I guess they've already incorporated an element of the conference concept.

Shorter season - YES.
20 rounds seems about right, IMO.
Scrap the NAB? Cup and cut the finals back to a top 6.
3 weeks of finals, short and sweet. No rewarding mediocrity 7th and 8th.
W1- 1v6 2v5 3v4. 2 lowest losers eliminated.
W2- 2 x PF.
W3- GF.

23 weeks allows for 2 byes which the players want.
Could even have State of origin match somewhere.

Just my thoughts. Cheers.

Tend to agree. 22 rounds over 24 weeks plus finals is hardly onerous. Only teachers seem to get more time off. Clubs will get better at developing lists that allow them to manage game time for players although elite players will probably have to carry an extra load.

I think make it a longer season and we should also get to play against Norwood and Glenleg instead of Melbourne and Footscray.

Wouldn't this make the season too short for the AFL, especially when they are already starting to lose crowds at games?

I've already explained the perfect solution. 10 teams get a short season and the deserving final eight get to play an extended finals series. Instead of being eliminated after one lousy final, each team gets to play at least three finals in the round robin format. Then the Prelim and then the Grand Final for the two successful teams.

That's best of both worlds. A shorter season for Hardwick and his mediocres and a longer and more testing finals series for the good teams.

Never gonna happen!!

Just leave the game alone.

If you'd said tht to me 30 yrs ago I'd have said good idea. Problem is the game hasn't been left alone.

I think there will still be inequities with a 20 round season. There will be three games that can favour or disadvantage all teams.

It will be interesting to see whether Collingwood lowers the price of membership if this goes ahead.

And there's merit to it. It just trying to change things too much all at once will meet way too many road blocks from the general public.

James Brayshaw reckons 20 rounds. Everyone plays each other once plus a rivalry round, opening round and some other round (cant remember)

This aint a bad step towards making it even. But ultimately we should be aiming for every side playing each other once only.

Stuff the revenue from TV rights. AFL fans just want an even draw, because the salary cap and draft only address part of making life in the big league even.

With all the equalisation pain we are gunna suffer we should be pushing this harder than ever.

I support ending the season when we're in top spot on the ladder.

leave finals system as it is CD
play 17 games for home and away over 22 weeks
the 22 game draw is uneven and too long with the modern game
forget tv and think about the players

Play each team once. The fixture must be fairer at all cost.

Two teams in NSW, QLD, WA, and SA...........For example: The Pies play swans, Brisbane, Freo, and port the first year away, then alternate the next year playing west Sydney, gold coast, eagles, and Adelaide, away......and so on.

Split 4 rounds over two weeks each, and that'll stretch it out.....and it'll be fairer. It's not perfect, but better than the current situation, in my opinion.

Go the Pies!

Yes. The current fixture is garbage. Almost anything would be better.
