Very well suited to that sort of a role. Has openly stated he doesn't have an interest in coaching so this is an excellent way to keep him involved.

Well done Nick for dredging every bit of skill, knowledge and self-belief out of what is surely a battle weary body.
He was always up for a chat on the rare ocassion I made it to Pies HQ and I can certainly see why Perty thinks he will eventually take his job.
After the flag, he wrote a great message and signed a premiership poster for our AFL hosts at The Cammy Hotel in Sydney. A great momento for the pub.

There are people born to play football and then there are those that are born to lead.

Maxwell was born to lead.

^^A number of good Maxwell articles this week. All have taken the same angle: polarising player who doesn't get his dues. It's true, even may Collingwood fans didn't recognise his full value until this year. I think Maxwell will end up like Leigh Brown, often maligned during his career, but after it we'd be wishing we could find another like him.

Not much more to add that hasn't already been said. Thanks Maxy, you've been a wonderful servant. A damn shame you couldn't see out the year.

Retires an all Australian premiership captain - not many people can hold that to their name. Well done Maxy and thanks for the memories. Hope the club keeps him on in some sort of coaching or development role.

Maxwell could play some SERIOUSLY good team footy. Must be congratulated on a fantastic career. Let's hope he can also help The Club off the field if/when that day comes.

But Bucks was a better Captain. Forget the flag. It has nothing to do with the Captain. It is a team effort. Whole of Club thing. Maxwell was a good player. Very lucky to have played for such a great Club like ours. Lets not get too sentimental about these people.

Thanks for the premiership and the memories Maxy, I look forward to your premiership winning coaching career.

I just spoke to me mate Eddiesmith, he is too choked up to type his love for the great man, he is currently in the foetal position hugging his magpie bear.

Has there been any word from the club on a farewell lap? I thought it would be this Sunday but there's been no mention of it
