Three words are all that is needed to sum up Nick Maxwell:

Collingwood

Premiership

Captain

When you put those three words together it puts you in very rare esteemed territory and there can be no higher accolade in my view.

Thanks for everything Nick.

Thanks for everything Maxy, but especially for the 2010 premiership cup. Because without your efforts in GF1, the Saints would have been premiers.
Great skipper & very courageous. Good luck with the future Maxy.

Thanks for all your hard work Maxy, a sad day, but not many leave a Premiership Captain and Magpie Legend.

5 Maxwell Moments

5. Dive on Line to save us in 2010 GF Draw
4. Undertaker choke slam tackle on Max Rooke 2007 Prelim
3. Tagging Scott Thompson out of game in 2008 EF
2. Goading Eddiesmith with his premiership medal in 2010.
1. Backing into a rampaging Johnathan Brown in 2006.

Perfect post.

Thanks Maxy, I true legend, a gentleman, a magnificent leader

Pass the tissues....

And a heartfelt thankYOU for the memories xxx

I remember when our last premiership captain was booed off the WACA by tens of thousands of eagirls flogs in his last game, and I thought what a terrible way to end a fantastic career. I feel just as gutted for Maxy as it looks injury has dealt a cruel blow.

I always loved his tenacity at a contest, backed away from nothing. Thanks for the cup Nick, all the best.

If his career had been in an American sport, they would be signing up the film rights now.

For someone who was overlooked in the draft and then rejected by a couple of clubs he then trialled with....

He ends up being given a rookie chance by our club and plays 200 games, is named All Australian and he not just plays in, but he ends up captaining our club to a premiership.

It's the stuff of legends and that's exactly what Nick Maxwell is......a legend.

It's amazing to think about isn't it. A real story of someone triumphing against the odds. There were so many that said he couldn't get there (and even more that told him he shouldn't be there once he was) but what he achieved was absolutely brilliant.

A fantastic servant of the club and one of the toughest bastards I've seen run around on the field in my short life time. Thanks for everything Maxy, you're a bloody legend.

Both these posts say it all perfectly.

this chap is a role model in so many aspects. he has proven that with a bit of gutsntermintation anyone can succeed if you set your mind to it.

if this rumour proves to be true i will be so disappointed. one of our great captains and leader of the club. has achieved plenty. thank you nick maxwell.

and so it proved to be true.

all i can say is "thank you maxy".

Well played, Maxy. Premiership hero. I hope the rest of your life brings you success and happiness.

208 games off the rookie list is a remarkable achievement. Captaining the 'Pies, being an All Australian and playing a key part in a premiership is the stuff that dreams are made of.

Thank you Maxy.

Bugger all players ever realise their full potential. You probably found another 5% somewhere, somehow.

You deserve more accolades than you are going to get but that sums up your career really.

Cheers mate

Thanks for everything Maxy

Agree, hoped he'd go on in 2015. Yet again though he's done what he sees as the best thing for the club. A true champion and a selfless leader.

always seemed a polarizing player within your support base, from an outsider perspective he always seemed to try his best, honest, good character , loyal and had a genuine love for the Collingwood FC, so for me that's all you can ask for, especially with a captain.

Well done Nick on a good career, you should be proud of all you achieved
