Would have liked to see him in the guts a bit more, seem to play high half forward?

I used to be undecided, but now I'm not so sure.

This is the hardest thing our players have to deal with when coming from the VFL to the AFL. The likes of Kennedy & Martin play midfield in the VFL & then when they get the call up, they have to play a role they haven't been used to playing. Same with Adams. We wacked him in the backline. Thank goodness today he played as an inside mid.

Keep playing him and let's use the next four or five weeks to find out if he's a keeper or not. His VFL form is so good that he should make it.

If he doesn't get a game next week I'll spew.
As expected for a player playing for the first time all year in just his
6th or so senior appearance he struggled with the increased
tempo of AFL. Like Adams i expect him to improve with evey outing as his
confidence grows.

yeah nah. it's not like martin is a stranger to the high half forward role.

Martin needs a massive second half. Just seems off the pace at the moment. Looks very pedestrian.

Not surprising, it's a big step up. Now we've picked him, i hope we stick with him fir a few weeks so he gets the run of it, and we see what he can do. Blair has been one of our better players, as usual.

I agree, let him find his feet and see if he can bring that sustained VFL performance to the seniors.

Adams brought a good attack on the ball and a real passion for the contest right from the get go. Martin just doesn't seem to have enough intensity. He is obviously a very skilled footballer, but without height, intensity or acceleration, you've got to be very special at reading the play and getting to the right position to make the opposition pay.

The big decision will be whether he gets a run next week.

thats right a half a game is enough to judge
kicked a goal which is more than what blair got

Blair kicked 2 goals

The problem is Martin's not an in the guts player at senior level. He weighs what, 77kg? Pushed off the ball very easily tonight. At senior level he's either a forward pocket where he doesn't have the skill or pace to be much more than a defensive forward like Blair, or as an outside midfield runner like Sidebottom, and when you don't have pace, you need to be very good and an elite runner to play this role.

At this stage it's probably not going to hurt to keep him in, but I don't see a big future at senior level. Being another slow, short player I don't see how he actually improves our team.

Had to sub him out, but deserves another opportunity

Definitely deserves another chance but he got tired in the latter part of he game so it was good decision to sub him out while we did.

I'm just glad he started as opposed to being the sub so it gave us a better idea of his fitness levels and how much he can contribute to the senior side.
