In principle, though, I have no issue with prisoners marrying. |
gee did you read the article?
funny that one of them killed a gay guy in a hate crime. BUT sounds like the family object not because of that though, but because they are allowed to marry at all. wow love blossomed on hard time, pity the victims don't get such a nice life...oh wait!
should have had to wait until they were out of jail.
nothing here points to any kind of sexual hang ups or prejudice to me.
just out raged victims of crime. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Victims of crime and their relatives often feel understandably unenthusiastic about the culprits' rights. But, beyond a vague suggestion that convicted criminals shouldn't get nice things, I'm not really sure what their argument is here.
Perhaps allowing more prisoners to develop intimate relationships in jail, if so inclined, would lead to greater rates of rehabilitation. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

You are the one that put the article here, to say, hey, there is still shit loads of people out there that won't let gay people marry, when it is actually about the parents and relatives of people who were brutally murdered by these bastards, being upset that they seem able to carry on as if nothing happened. The story is NOT about gay bashing. It could be a co-ed prison, the story would be the same. Victims rights? Bwah, who gives a rap hey? Certainly not you.
Might lead to greater rates of rehabilitation? Might also lead to two criminals working together on their sick fantasies.
But that doesn't matter. You put it in the gay marriage thread. And that is not what it's about.
And now you want to split the thread.

I think regardless of what people think about this issue, I see the legalisation of same-sex marriage as inevitable rather than just a distant thought that will be forgotten about quickly.
The polls suggest that support for legalisation is rising in this country and with most countries in the western world legalising it already I can't see why Australia won't be any different in the near future.
There are different types of reasons why someone may the legislation of same-sex marriage. The most simple one is that some people are just homophobic and therefore they frown upon the LGBT community in general. Secondly, some are concerned that legalising same-sex marriage may lead to the legalisation of other forms of marriage such as polygamy and that gay couples may have the right to adopt children and lastly some believe that marriage shouldn't even be determined by the government or statutory authority but rather it should be left up to religious institutions like the church to decide what the definition of marriage is.
So I think the reasons as to why one in four Australians may oppose same-sex marriage will have differing reasons for opposing it rather than someone just simply being a homophobic bigot or having core religious beliefs. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

Do you still oppose it, Jezza? I remember you saying you did in the past, though none of the reasons you attribute to others there are particularly compelling. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

No I'm indifferent now.
If it was legalised tomorrow it wouldn't bother me in the slightest and I'd be accepting of the legislative changes however I'm not someone who openly advocates for it passionately like many others do. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

Don't really care (like I've said, Government should get out of the marriage business all together), but I hope this means a huge decline in whining from progressives. |
