Patty Mills has just re-signed with San Antonio Spurs for $13 million!

It was Patty Mills who took Pendlebury's place at the AIS when he decided he wanted to play for Collingwood instead of pursuing stardom in basketball. I have no doubts Pendles would have made the NBA and been a starting guard for the Aussies.

You have to hand it to him for his love of footy, because it has sure cost him plenty! Sad

How many times does it have to be repeated.... Pendles has confirmed on numerous occasions that is an urban myth. Although your point about not earning anywhere near as much is amusing! Pendles doesn't strike me as the kind of character to worry about that.

I still don't understand why you'd trade playing in a truly international sport that could make you literally millions (LeBron just signed with Cleveland for $48 million), play at World Championships and Olympics, to play a pissy little sport that nobody else in the world cares about.

The same applies to soccer players. I think when more kids take this factor into the equation, the best sportsmen and women will be opting for truly international sports. I mean even cricket (which is played by as few countries as netball) earns the top players more dollars.

Good on Pendles for his loyalty, but I'll bet he has second thoughts now and then.

If you think its a "pissy little sport", perhaps you could do us all a favour and stop posting about it.

Compared to the World Cup it is! Just calling it like it is.

By 2050 there will basically be only two sports of significance. Soccer and Baseball.

Not a complete urban myth. When Pendles left the AIS, the next person in was Mills, so if they have a max number of students at any one time, then the spot that became vacant when Pendles left was then occupied by Mills.

oh, and btw, Pendles is a great footballer, but certainly lacks the explosiveness, given his lack of height, to make it to the NBA like Mills.

Its a fair point Dave, i mean, pendles missed his basketball cash in, keeffe could be at the world cup right now after giving up his indoor soccer career, marty clarke and mooney are flat because they should be dominating gaelic, Harry is flat because he missed the boat on saving the world and Blair is flat because he missed his chance at cashing in on a career as one of those decorative AFL garden gnomes!!!
