Post subject: Endemic persecution of Tamils in Sri Lanka an urban mythReply with quote

Interesting point from someone more closely involved as opposed to the hysterics by some.

LABOR’S last foreign minister, Bob Carr, has ridiculed refugee advocates’ “urban mythology” about endemic persecution of Tamils in Sri Lanka, saying the previous government “couldn’t find a single case” of returned asylum-seekers being abused by authorities.

Probably right, but merely reporting what Bob Carr said.

Except in the obvious sense that his past complicity leaves him quite hopelessly compromised on the issue, why would it be accurate to describe Bob Carr as "more closely involved"?

The question is, of course, purely rhetorical.

Story written in The Australian... isn't that like using "conservative wikipedia" to support your argument?

Not sure it matters where it is written. It is the former foreign minister telling us his experience under the former Labor Government.

Am sure that Fairfax and the ABC, being the bastion of impartiality which they are, would also have reported what the former foreign minister said.

Carr, Abbott and Morrison can all go die in a hole. Absolute filth of the highest order.

Interesting. 12 months ago any criticism of Bob would have been met with shouts of anger in defence by all the Labourites.

It may well still. Personally, I don't really much care what Laborites think. All I know is that their party and the Liberals have cynically colluded to produce one of the most contemptible policies this country has ever seen.

On that part I would strongly disagree with you. Not a lot of point arguing about it because I know your stance on this and I disagree.

Yep. Labor is now just as compromised on this issue as the coalition. Their policy switch to move into lockstep with the coalition, even attempting to outdo their cruelty, has been one of the weakest political decisions for some time.

To misquote Groucho Marx:

Those are our principles, (substitute political party of your choice) and if you don't like them... well, we have others.

What, you don't like populism & political expediency taking pride of place before basic decency?

My god, what's wrong with you.
