Not sure why anyone would bother paying for a VPN for torrents until they receive there first warning letter.

Because there is always a chance that the owner of any other movie you have previously downloaded can also retrospectively get your details and issue more notices.

For example, let's pretend that I have downloaded 10 movies without hiding my IP address and I receive my first notice. There are 9 other movies I could potentially get picked up for at any time.

I thought that Law says it’s on the 3rd Strike is when your Information can be Given to the Company. You have 2 Warnings before they do that

Remember too, our laws in Australia don't allow for american style letter like the yanks got, upwards of US$7000.

In Aus, they can only come after you for potential lost money on what they would have received, had you gone to the movies or something to see it.

So $50 at most for a Fine?

Do you have a Source Saying That?

^^^

I don't have a link.

I believe it's the law.

If it's for our own use, I'm fairly sure they can only come after us for the amount lost to them by the sale.

Unless it changes next week, then we're all £$%$ed; in the long run.

Though I haven't downloaded this movie, so I'm safe.

The proposal to start charging GST on netflix, itunes etc will make more people download illegally. It will be the modern form of the Eureka Stockade.

I don't necessarily oppose the idea, but I agree that it's certainly poor timing if they're wanting to crack down on illegal downloading. The big studios would be furious at the government if they institute this now.

Now we know the real reason the government have jumped onto the anti-piracy band wagon.

No, Dave. It is so people buy movies and DVDs legally and pay GST.
