Agree - a VPN will never be set up in Australia. I also worry about Companies like TorGurad and PIA who have set-up VPN Servers in Australia.

Though it be okay as long as Company is outside of Australia

Will VPNs ever be made illegal? I can't understand why the government tolerates their use, to be honest.

That statement made me cringe. Government 'tolerates' their use because just about every business with an internet connection runs a VPN to protect their sensitive data. Corporate espionage is a big thing. Remember, even in China you can use a VPN to circumvent their draconian restrictions because their businesses need them.

Thanks, that makes more sense. Re: my question, I don't see why it should make you cringe. If the government ceased to tolerate the use of VPNs, they would presumably pass a bill to make them illegal. The question was why, given their obsession with surveillance and authoritarian control, they haven't done that; I guess widespread use in the corporate sector would explain it.

Just the casual acceptance of tyrannical government interference due to nothing more than commercial interest of US media companies. I know your general thoughts on the issue aren't quite so blasé but your comment sounded so defeatist.

IF there was not Media Companies having a Sook. The government would have no idea what a VPN was

Of course the ALP will back it. They are good little lickspittles that don't want to upset global media corporations and their mega profits. They will do as they are told just like always.

I know how to cut down massively on downloading and it won't cost a cent... tell the bogans downloading is halal and I guarantee downloading will drop 50% overnight Laughing Laughing

$20 an episode is a bit rich when you could buy the whole season on DVD for that Shocked

In fact, you can buy the whole fraking series, all 40 DVD's for $120
