The kids secondary school has a school chaplain who works in conjunction with the Student Wellbeing Co-ordinator.
Even though he is a chaplain, his work does not involve 'religious education'. He works in administering & developing the school mentoring & wellbeing programs. Last term he co-ordinated the RUOK? Day which was a great success.
The school funds the position itself with support from one of the local churches as it is seen as a valuable service/support for students. _________________ If you are foolish enough to be contented, don't show it, but just grumble with the rest. - Jerome K Jerome |

I agree with David, no need for religion in schools. If parents want their kids to learn their beliefs let them teach them, or go to their place of worship out of school hours!
Ideally would be happy for no religion at all.
The Christians in Bendigo who don't want the mosque built there should also agree to get rid of all the churches as well, that would be fair! _________________ Cheers big ears |

^ Are they really Christians? You'd have to wonder. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

Yep. A Mosque is just a church by another name. Allow one, allow em all. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Really? OMFG, yes that's MY GOD!
Mosques are fine as long as they are not hideously ugly like the one in sunshine.
Did anyone note I said, and the article said, it didn't have to be religion based?
As dark beanie said, it's not about religion, it's about wellbeing and mentoring programs.
So much truth in the statement "people don't listen to learn, they listen to reply" and I'll add "and read into it to suit their own agenda."
Did anyone actually read my post or the article connected to it?
Seriously, you used to be able to have a healthy debate here. Now it's just dismiss anyone who apparently didn't get enough education to sound off like a $£$%^%%$ dictionary.
Whatever. Rot in hell heathens! And yes, I believe there is one. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

What are you talking about? I haven't seen anyone dismiss your post. I simply disagree with your position and that of the author of the article you posted. We don't need unqualified evangelists to be running our schools' counselling and mental health support services. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Sensible news at last!
The Victorian Education Department has decreed that religious instruction in Victorian State Schools can still go ahead, but only in classes run before school, after school or at lunch.
This leaves learning time, to just that. No more religious twaddle during the regular lesson times.
Let's see how many takers they get now for their proselytising when you have to give up your lunchtime or stay behind after dismissal times!
