So sad to read the news from Sky News that he had passed away at just 56. He was the reason I loved watching the movie 'Drop Dead Fred' and enjoyed The Young Ones.

It's probably to break out Drop Dead Fred again. RIP.

That's so sad.

He had a quad bike accident in 1998, at his holiday home in Devon (I was born there). They think he had a seizure due to the brain injury he received in the fall.

Good comedian, he and his humour will be sadly missed.

RIP Rik. Xx

You could be right, read this on Facebook 'Rik Mayall was diagnosed with epilepsy after he was involved in a quad bike accident in 1998.'

On the quad-bike accident he had commented in an interview "After my quad-bike accident I was dead for five days. Jesus was only dead for three, so I beat him."

My brother and I were only talking yesterday how much we loved the New Statesman, his appearances in Blackadder Goes Forth and another series where he played the role of a professor. Blackadder is being shown on one of the FTA stations at the moment. He had a very interesting career and at one stage in jest he took the blame for Stephen Fry's breakdown.

I don't think I've ever seem Drop Dead Fred, but loved the young ones and his cameo as Flashman in Black Adder

Bad day for deaths, Gary Gilmour the ex Aussie cricketer dies today as well.

Quote:
British comedian Rik Mayall suffered a fatal heart attack after his usual morning run ... this according to his family.

Mayall -- who starred in the cult 90s comedy "Drop Dead Fred" -- passed away on Monday at the age of 56.

In a statement, Mayall's wife Barbara revealed the cause of his death, and added ... "We always knew that Rik was well loved but we are all overwhelmed by so many joining us in our grief."

She concluded by saying, "I am sure that you all know Rik’s response would be something along the lines of ... 'Well thanks very much all of you, now F**K OFF!!!!'"

Vale Rick the student anarchast!
For those of us here old enough to remember when the Young Ones was the most popular comedy on TV amongst us schoolkids in 1985, by the length of Flemington.
