I can now say with considerable confidence that watching the team you support finish third at the World Cup is infinitely better than watching it come second (three times).

Holland 3, Brazil 0.

Sad to see Brazil booed of the pitch by their own fans, though. I wonder if Brazil have ever conceded 10 goals in the space of 2 games?

Brazil 0-3 Netherlands

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/28173517

Key Moments:
Goals:
Netherlands - 3' (Van Persie) - Penalty
Netherlands - 16' (Blind)
Netherlands - 90' (Wijnaldum)

Talking Point:
- Netherlands end the World Cup on a good note! Brazil on the other hand are mortified with another heavy defeat.
- Luis Felipe Scolari is booed by Brazilian fans!

Well this is it, the World Cup Final is now upon us and it involves World Cup favourites Germany taking on Argentina led by Leo Messi. These two sides have had plenty of history against one another in World Cup Finals with both 1986 and 1990 World Cup Finals being prominent. Argentina were victorious in 1986, but the Germans obtained their revenge in 1990. In other World Cup games the Germans have had the wood over Argentina with wins in both Quarter Finals in the 2006 and 2010 World Cup.

Personally I think Germany's going to win this comfortably. If Messi doesn't fire I can see this being like the 1998 World Cup Final! Germany just has a champion team which will be too hard to break down and frustrate.

Prediction: Germany 3-0 Argentina

Germany v Argentina - 5am (EST)

Germany in the first half looked a lot like Bayern without Robben up front. Funny, that.

That's that, then. Germany win 1:0. Great goal by the substitute Gotze but little else to get excited about.

So, anyway, how did Messi get voted the best player of the tournament? Best player in the world, no doubt about it, but I think we all thought he had little influence on any of the important games. C Judd 3 votes?

Argentina had 3 really good chances to score and fluffed them all.

Best team won. 18 goals in 7 games. Their semi win will be remembered forever.
How brave were the Argies in the final? No Di Maria, Aguero obviously not fit, but they plugged away terrifically. My prediction was yet again really obvious- Argies would scrap, play fiesty & be bloody hard to beat, but the Germans would just have too much spread of possible goal scorers in the end. So it came to pass.
Fully agree P4S, how on earth did Messi get the gong?
Best players who each enhanced their reputations; Neuer, Schweinsteiger Muller, Mascherano, Zabaletta, James & even Robben IMHO.
Worst players who's reputations took a hit; Fred, Hulk, Hazard, Casillas, Assou-Ekotto.
I am a complete diving, racist, biting idiot award - too obvious, won't even bother.

As I expected from the start of the tournament, Germany are the champions and deservingly so. I would have been more upset had Argentina won purely because they were hardly spectacular in their matches leading up to the Final.

German football is in a very healthy state at the moment and will continue to grow as it has the perfect blend of youth and experience currently. Overall it's been an excellent World Cup that's surpassed expectations. I wasn't that excited about it in the build up to it but it's been a good tournament, much better than the 2010 World Cup with the non-stop vuvuzelas.

I didn't agree with the decision of Leo Messi being the player of the tournament. I think someone like Neuer, Kroos, Muller or James Rodriguez were much more worthy of the award as opposed to Messi. That's not to say Messi wasn't bad in the tournament, but he hardly stood out compared to these players I've mentioned.

Anyway congratulations to Germany! Deserving winners!
