Abbott said today he has had constructive talks with Egypt's pres El Sisi about the Peter Greste trial, but doesn't want to engage in megaphone diplomacy.
No need really.
Before he began those "constructive talks" he congratulated El Pres on his clap-down on the Moslam brotherhood.
The same organisation that Peter Greste is alleged to have aided.
This might not be a foot in the mouth moment but this is an extremely mixed message he is sending to the Egyptians.

...unless of course the message is a "we don't give a stuff about freedom of speech or justice or Al Jazira journalists.
We just won't to sell you more lamb".

Poor defence lawyers. Submitting Andrew Bolt's Blogs was always going to fail as an example of a free press.

LOL! Everyday you just have to marvel. Two-tier Tony is the greatest lying fraud, bumbling puppet of wealth, and flakey space cadet in Australian political history by miles. The bloke is an outright fruitcake beyond even my wildest satirical expectations; so much so it's hard to even glory in it without feeling guilty!

Tony would be a great guy to hang out with, do some boxing training, go for a run and then have a few beers. I think he makes an excellent political attack dog in the Simon Crean mold, but, much like Crean, he's not a leader and never should have been. He just can't read the lay of the land and isn't charismatic beyond a blokey mate kind of thing, and Beazley had that and it never worked for him either.

That said, Howard was a little dweeb when he was elected and ended up one of the longest serving PMs and history is going to see him very kindly. I'm still waiting for Tony's "father of the nation" moment, but I'm not seeing it. Luckily for him, Labor is no more popular that he is, but if the numbers start to pull apart (them up, him down) then Turnbull will be conscripted in a heartbeat.

In fairness Mark Latham could give him a run for his money.

I mostly enjoy his antics, but don't confuse these shenanigans with actual policy or principle. He's just enjoying making Tony beg.

Oh, by the way, any prizes for guessing who said this?

I thought it was a stupid, hypocritical and pointless promise then (one that Kevin "me too" Rudd facepalmingly echoed), but how does it look now? About as believable as any other promise he's given.

Looks like he's not a good negotiator.
