So we have a new boss of the AFL, big bad arrogant Andy D is gone and in walks Hamish's older brother (cmon now that's all most of you knew him as).

One interesting point is that it has been reported that Gil is a close friend with Nathan Buckley and also the man likely to be our next president, Craig Kelly.

Could this be a move that helps the Pies out?

He was also apparently heavily backed for the job by Eddie and Pert. Could be a good thing I think.

The way I see it, we will all (besides Jock Wink ) be rapt to be rid of Vlad and dance with joy and hope for a new and fair regime.

Then the new guy will do/say/plan something that we don't like.

Then we will believe the new guy is out to get us and destroy football in general.

Then we'll spend the next 10 years calling for his head.

Cool

I'm getting in early: I'm not impressed by what I've seen so far from him, so my expectations are already pretty low. And I hope to God he was adopted.

"Less of a dickhead than Demetriou" is the best I'm hoping for here. I think it's quite possible that he'll be even worse.

I spoke to Perty about this recently, and the general consensus amongst Clubs is they are happy with the new appointment and hopeful for a change.

The change being to bring the game back to listening to the fans. AD has been seen by clubs as outcome driven, getting result no matter the cost.

Thus Pies have a crap draw .. horrible twilight and night games that families can't go to ... WHY to maximise TV ratings.

I am hopeful

how terrible it is to have someone who is "outcome driven". if we're not outcome driven wtf are we doing instead?

I think the suggestion is that he took something of an "ends justifies the means" philosophy. Though I think his preferred 'ends' were part of the problem.

So far he is making the right noises for me.

Implying that there are things about the way Andy did the job that he won't be trying to emulate is good.

Suggesting that they can make it easier and more affordable for folks to go to the actual game, when it seemed to me that attendances were being deliberately sacrificed for the sake of television ratings, is good.

Doesn't mean it isn't all smoke and mirrors under the curtains and he is in fact hellbent on fulfilling Andy's goals, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

I am hopeful

We are the last club that needs help, the only thing that would help us would be cutting the help to the others Wink
