Post subject: Des Tuddenham on Open Mike. | |
|
Just thought this was worth a plug, only just realised that tonight's guest on Open Mike is the one and only Des Tuddenham.
He was just before my time but my Dad and Uncle talk about him with such revere.
Anyway, 9.30pm tonight, Fox Footy. |

Pure Collingwood Champion. One of our greatest. Did he go on strike over pay? _________________ I love this club and I hold anyone in contempt who does not think it is worth fighting for. |

Compelling viewing. Mike Sheehan was scared for his safety towards the end of the interview . It may have been going to be a two part interview but was cut short. Des was not lacking in confidence in his own abilities. Still looking in good shape for a 71 year old.
No I do not have a link Dave. |

bloody fantastic it was. My dad spent a good 2 hours with him a couple of years back after a game, he just walked up to my dad and bought him a beer. I ended up at the bar for the rest of the night. Great bloke and honest as they come. He loves the club, gave his heart and soul. Good to hear him say that he thought Ted Potter the best player he played with. _________________ May the seeds of hope bloom into the eurphoria of success. Go Pies |

Des Tuddenham and Bob Rose both turned up at Moorabbin for the St Kilda 1966 21st reunion in 1987
I wonder if Ross Lyon and Nick Reiwoldt will be at our clubs 21st reunion in 2031

Good interview but maybe Mike would've been a bit wiser to clear with Des beforehand if he could ask about some of his off field "problems".
The look Des gave him was scary and Mike shit himself and I don't blame him.
Some people are happy to open up publicly about their personal life, faults and indiscretions and others aren't. Pretty safe to say Tuddy is in the latter camp. |

Great interview. What struck me was how unprofessional the club was. Galbally lost the election by 6 votes. Said that he would of been as good as Eddie.
Tuddy would have been made captain coach. Training was woeful and players weren't fit enough. Would have changed all that. Said May have won a few flags if Galbally won.
Missed out on Dick Clay and Allan Noonan because had to go back to the board to approve signing players. |

Carlton has their John Nicholls we have Tuddy. Let's call it all square. They were both great players and what happened after their careers should not distract from their contribution to footy.
Mind you $30,000 worth of tyres in the early 80s was a hell of a lot of money. _________________ Rain or hail, I wag my tail |
