On the 12th of February, Geelong hosted Collingwood at Kardinia Park in a pre-season game of high quality. This was the game where Nick Maxwell collided with Geelong's George Burbury, breaking his jaw. It was a sickening collision. It was also the game where Nathan Freeman, our number 6 draft pick, road-runner was sidelined with a pulled hamstring. That was ten weeks ago. Today Collingwood's Football Operations Manager released a video explaining the progress of injured players, Broomhead, Reid and Seedsman. Conspicuously, no mention was made of Nathan Freeman's hamstring.

I was at training 4 weeks ago and watched Freeman running laps at about 50% pace. What's happened that after 10 weeks we still don't have a return date for Nathan? Is the injury something far more serious? Is Collingwood hiding something?

At this rate, neither of our much heralded draft picks in Sharenberg and Freeman will even make it to the VFL this year which is very disappointing indeed. With Sharenberg we understand the delay; two foot operations means slow progress. But what has happened to Freeman? And why has our sports-science-depatrtment with a staff of thousands failed to provide an update for months?

I smell a rat.

There was a recent update. Tendon damage, not just the usual hamstring strain, so will take longer than first anticipated.

Clubs lie all the time. I don't believe much that comes out of their mouth, to be honest.

I think the biggest straight shooter in the game at the moment is Bomber Thompson.

^^^ Freeman was pick 10, rather than 6

Frustrating to fans and club alike. Thankfully, many of our players are returning and our injury list looks more manageable than at earlier stages of this season.

Other than for recruiting intentions, I cannot see why the club tells porkies about things like injuries. They're kidding themselves if they believe that it disrupts our opposition to any great extent. Even a swift and consistent 'we don't comment on our recruiting intentions' would suffice. It's at least honest and gives nothing away.

Don't trust that man as far as I could throw him, he is so well suited to Essendon!

Gave up paying attention to injury lists years ago

How many times does it have to be posted that Freeman had tendon damage before these threads stop appearing? Confused

If the Club knew he had a suspect tendon, why was he on the park? If they didn't know this might happen, why not? I blame the Coach for not being able to see the future, or at least for failing to get good people around him who can.

I can recall seeing Freeman reaching for his hamstring 6 months prior to the draft as he attempted to sprint up the "Grassy Knoll:.

This should have tipped you off that he was being facetious.

The football department is FOS with all their injury lists the send out.

Oxley, Seedsman and Broomhead still arent back playing.

How is that possible when they were all deemed probably fit to play rd1?

There are various grades of hamstring strain, you can strain it or you can tear it. The most common and least damaging takes about 3 weeks to come good but if you tear some of the tendon away from the bone you are looking at a long time out of the game.
