So, from that 11 people the best back 6 is:
Sinclair Brown Frost
Toovey Keeffe maxwell

Disposal coming out of defence would be pretty ordinary with that combo, stui. _________________ kill for collingwood! |

Once Marley is good to go and Ben Reid is fit, the competition for slots in our backline is going to be outrageously good. Then of course there is Shazzaburger, Oxley and Sinkers in the queue as well. |

Dunno why Scharenberg is an automatic backman let him play some VFL first
Williams no matter how much the trial has messed with his head will be rusty and will need weeks to get ready and is not known for his footskills
Seedsman while promising was not great one on one but that is probably a lack of experience
Reid is needed up forward
Fasolo will long term go forward or the middle
Auto inclusions are Brown, Toovey Maxwell
Keeffe Frost Sinclair are next
Langdon and a bunch of kids who havent played senior football next
A lot of depth long term and heaps of options
A great place to be. _________________ Carlscum 120 years being cheating scum |

This.
Only one good kick among them: Keeffe. And as much as I like him, I'm not sure we can rely on a 204cm key backman, who will be busy just trying to curtail the opposition's best forward, to be our best rebound outlet as well.
Hence, we need Reid back there, among others.
My (eventual) preferred back 7, with a full list to choose from...
B: Toovey, Brown/Frost, Scharenberg
HB: Williams, Keeffe, Seedsman
+1: Reid
(couldn't split Frost and Brown)
I suppose the club will be hoping that Scharenberg has the capacity to develop into a full-time midfielder down the track, in which case you would probably have Langdon in there to replace him... |

Pretty much exactly as I see it, MB.
Other flankers such as Fas, Broomhead, Lumumba and Langdon will in the mix for Seedsman spot, and Sinclair is there for the Toovey / Williams spot.
Reid to be swung forward or back, as required (not sure which position I prefer at this stage). _________________ kill for collingwood! |

For this season?
There are only 3 locks in our defense: Brown, Toovey, Maxwell (Maxwell has become one due to good form). The rest is all flux. Will Reid play forward? If not, is it Keeffe or Frost for the other tall back (Brown is the clear number 1)? Who will fill the pockets and flanks (we have 7-10 viable options)?
The fact is we never really had a settled back 6 last year, and this season we have even more depth. I think, particularly among the flankers there will be continual movement depending on team and individual performance. There are just too many players around a similar level for selection to be set in stone at any point. There are no walkup starts outside of the three listed earlier unless Reid does play back, and I don't think he will. _________________ Well done boys! |

Reid forward will be massive for us if he ever gets out on the park.
He has the potential to be as good as Cloke IMO and along with White will have opposition defences worried and stretched for height.
Assuming we have any two of Brown, Keeffe and Frost available then Reid forward is a no brainer. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

Yep, Frost and Keeffe are too good as tall defenders for Reid not to play forward. Sure, Reid's better than those two, but not so much that we'd take away what could be a massive boost to our forward line.
I suspect (almost certain, really) that it'll be Frost backing up Brown in the key defensive posts. He's a very similar player to Reid, quick and athletic (also 195cm, just checked that as someone was trying to tell me he's only a medium ), not great one on one but very game. The main thing we lose is Reid's marking down back. Frost doesn't do a lot of this. And of course Reid's precise and penetrative disposal. _________________ Well done boys! |
