If they cant play against AFL listed players, thereby giving themselves a chance to finally get drafted, they will go and play in a suburban comp, where they will more than likely be paid more.
Some of these suburban clubs have money coming out their backsides.
The traditional VFA clubs will then all eventually close down, or end up as just another club in a suburban comp.
What a shame. |
Why wouldn't a revamped VFA be able to attract bigger funding? Surely Port Melbourne and Williamstown are going to attract more sponsors and supporters than Oakleigh Districts.
Personally, I see the destruction of the VFA and old reserves comp as a sad moment in the history of Victorian football and really just a method of entrenching the dominance of the AFL by destroying all possible competitors. The realist in me thinks it's possibly too late to go back, but I don't know if that ship has completely sailed. The more corporate and artificial the AFL gets, the more interest there will be in lower grade comps. The VFA has a lot of history to trade on. As for the reserves, I'd strongly support their return, but that may be more nostalgia than logic speaking. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |
