Post subject: Inside the Liberal cesspit: more corruption exposedReply with quote

Today the Independent Commission Against Corruption exposed yet more of the cesspit of bribery and corruption that is NSW politics. Having already found out Tony Abbott's right-had-man in the Federal Cabinet - disgraced Liberal heavyweight and former Assistant Treasurer Arthur Sinodinos - evidence laid before the corruption commission today exposed NSW Liberal Premier Barry O'Farrell, who just yesterday swore on oath that he had not received a $3000 gift. O'Farrell has resigned as Premier. Resignation is a huge step not taken lightly: obviously there is more to the O'Farrell story than we yet know.

There will be plenty to read about this latest episode before too long, meanwhile, ponder the Sinodinos Scam: the senior Liberal minister was earning $140,000 as a senator and spending $100,000 just on rent for his super-luxury house in Sydney when he took $200,000 for 45 hours "work" helping a company with extensive links to both the Liberal Party and the disgraced former state Labor powerbroket Eddie Obeid fleece the taxpayer for multiple millions - Sinodinos' payout on success was to be a cool twenty million. Meanwhile, there were massive "donations" to the Liberal Party - all out of the NSW taxpayer's pocket - and there is a lot, lot more still to come out.

Liberal NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell blatantly caught out lying under oath at ICAC. Snouts in the trough yet again and not even the backbone to reveal the truth about it.
Yesterday = O'Farrell - I never took a $3000 bottle of Grange as a gift. Never.
Today = here's a phone record of you contacting the dodgy Australian Water Holdings businessman donor and a copy of a written thank you note penned in your own handwriting where you explicitly thank him for the wine and even name the vintage.
O'Farrell resigns.
We deserve better.
And yes Tannin, only the tip of the iceberg.....

So it was that bottle of wine. Now I remember.

Tony Abbott can him an honourable man (for falling on his sword)

How about a political man who knew in political terms there was no way out of that.

Mind you I've always found it hard to recall the $3,000 bottle of grange from the $5,000 bottle, don't even talk about the $10,000 bottles. Now if I can get South East Water here to fix me up with a little deal...snouts in troughs....

NSW is a corrupt shithole and has been for years. Time for a royal commission.

Barrel Ofarrell's memory appears little better than 1/2a Sindino's

It's either the Sydney water or the cheap Grange.

Tony's hissy fit at his press conference made my day, not quite to the standard of suppository of wisdom, but getting there. Maybe he can dish it out, but can he take it?

NSW Libs obviously learned nothing and are falling in line with the corrupt bullshit dealings of the NSW Labor party.

Sack every politician in NSW and every staffer as well and make all parties start again from scratch. Cesspit is an apt description.

But the Greens are such a viable alternative<insert sarcasm here> if you want to vote for a decent party.

Now Hockey is implicated.

The Obeid-linked water company at the centre of conflict of interest allegations that are before the Independent Commission Against Corruption made multiple donations to the Liberal Party as it sought political favour, including a direct donation of $10,000 to Joe Hockey's federal electorate committee in 2010 - just weeks before the election that year.

Always happy for corruption to be exposed, but in one way it's a shameO'Farrell was one of the more moderate Liberal premiers and ran a government that provided a good counterpoint to the extremists in WA and Queensland. I doubt his replacement will be as socially progressive.

That aside, may all corrupt politicians suffer his fate.

(Oh, and say what you like about the Greens, but they're obviously bound to be far less corrupt than the Liberal Party, Labor and Mrs Palmer's lot. It's just the natural result of money and power not being your number one priority.)

look if you want to line up the NSW Libs vs labor to see who's the most corrupt, Labor will win but no credit will go to either side. It's obviously a culture up there.

I was raised a new south welshman but was born in Victoria and identify as a Victorian most of the time. Shooting all the so called power brokers in the NSW labor right would be doing a massive favour to the Labor party as a whole.

Shoot the whole $$%^%%$ lot would be doing a massive favour for the country.

Just for the head-in-sanders still busily saying how honest and upright O'Farrell is, and how his resignation demonstrates just what a truthful and decent man he was, some ugly facts about his close and secret relationship with the corrupt company Australian Water Holdings' CEO and Liberal Party fundraiser Nick Di Girolamo.

Strange as it might seem given that Di Girolamo and his company was pouring multiple huge "donations" into Liberal party coffers - $10,000 for Federal Liberal Party Treasurer Joe Hockey just to name one example - with the bill ultimately being met by the NSW taxpayer, O'Farrell, when first questioned, "barely knew" Di Girolamo, and he "couldn't remember the last time he spoke" to him. Strange, given that O'Farrell's office installed Di Girolamo onto the board of the government Water Corp. Very strange, when we discover that Di Girolamo's company was later handed a 25-year government contract worth $100,000,000. Stranger still when we remember that Di Girolamo's company had "donated" more than $43,000 to O'Farrell's election campaign. Someone gives you $43,000 and you can't remember him? Wow!

Then, under pressure, O'Farrell admitted to having had one meeting with him. Then O'Farrell's story changed again: now he was telling Parliament that he'd met Di Girolamo at ... ten ... different events. Next came the admission that he had dined together, and now we finally learn that O'Farrell and Di Girolamo were actually in contact by phone and text every couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, Australian Water Holdings (the company led by Di Girolamo with disgraced Liberal Senator and Assistant Federal Treasurer Arthur Sinodinos on the board of Directors) was carrying on business as usual, paying itself massive salaries ($1,100,000 a year for Di Girolamo with another $250,000 "sign-on bonus"; $200,000 to disgraced Senator and federal Liberal Assistant Treasurer Sinodinos for 30-45 hours "work"), handing out huge "donations" to the Liberal Party, entertaining lavishly, and billing the whole lot to the government-owned Sydney Water Corporation.

Did you ever find it strange that Abbott regards his shameless rorting of the parliamentary expense account to sell his book, attend weddings, and put himself up in luxury hotels so he can go swimming as nothing if it was completely trivial? Now you know why: compared to the multi-million dollar rorts going on in the rest of the Liberal Party, Abbott's helping himself to a few tens of thousands is trivial.
