Laird, I think you provide a rational, compassionate interpretation of Christianity (I still think your comment about the idea of a minimum age for church attendance was brave and something that I wish more public figures, secular and Christian alike, would have the guts to argue). I think it's easy to make sweeping claims sometimes that are both unfair and incorrect, so I apologise to anyone who was hurt by what I posted on the first page. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

No worries mate.

Thoughts and yes, prayers with you regarding studies/job. All the best David. _________________ " Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye" ? |

I gave it a shot, but you lost me with the line "God was too busy today protecting America's soldiers".
Once I read that, I gave up. |
It's ok, I was just being a dick posting a bunch of stuff from the internet no one wants to read, -ie like a lot of the long boring posts in the tavern lately |
Maybe it's a mental illness? |

Good and fair questions Tannin.
However " contraception is murder, come to Jesus" is a contradiction.
Not sure how much clearer it needs to be but - Jesus accepts and loves all. I will say it one more time - Jesus loves and accepts ALL.
There is nothing, I repeat, nothing that Jesus does not love about any person.
To answer your question regarding the sign holder - they probably should just go home and let others be. Let others deal with their lives in their own way. We all have enough problems without people thinking that holding up such a sign would make anything better.
A christian understands that Jesus can change the heart of anyone ( if He chooses to) - yep, even you mate. He does not require a person standing with a sign that will only hurt another person.
Truth is, Jesus would be with the lady entering the clinic ( regardless of her decision), so much more than the clown holding a sign, ranting, judging another of His children that He was nailed to a cross for.
Who is more dangerous? Good question. |
Mate, whatever version of Christianity you follow, kudos to you and them. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

The other side of mental illness-related stigma:
https://www.humanrights.gov.au/publications/right-vote-not-enjoyed-equally-all-australians#fnB22a
Quote: | A disproportionate number of people in prison have a mental illness. For example, a 2001 study by the Schizophrenia Fellowship of NSW suggests that 60% of people admitted to prisons have an active mental illness. The NSW Corrections Health Service also conducted a survey which revealed that 54% of women and 41% of men in prison reported that they had received some form of psychiatric treatment or assessment for an emotional or mental health problem at some point in their lives. Approximately one third of these people had been previously admitted to hospital as a psychiatric inpatient. |
Also:
Quote: | A disproportionate number of people in prison have an intellectual disability. According to the NSW Law Reform Commission people with intellectual disability are detained at a rate 4 times greater than that of the general population. |

Many of them the exact same people who used to be locked up in asylums back before Szasz started writing in the 1960s and the deinstitutionalisation movement got going in the 1980s. And the prisons are bursting with overcrowding. We haven't fixed the problem, haven't even started fixing the problem, we have just shuffled it around a bit. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |
