Ha, I've been to Seven Seeds. OK, but a bit too swanky for my liking. I'll take an abandoned warehouse any day.
By the way, why do people dislike hipsters so much? And what is a hipster anyway? _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

So there's not one single hipster hangout in Richmond!
I guess all those pretentious idiots who've moved here in the past ten years are not hipsters then?
They must simply be wankers instead. |

Scanning through those joints I did have a bit of an lol.
David, nothing against those represented therein as they certainly add a bit of colour, but it's probably that any exaggerated fixation with image runs the risk of cringeworthiness beyond young adulthood. _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

Faux luddites who like to pretentiously 'go retro' on anything that wont inconvenience them or get in the way of their Web 2.0 blogging/instagramming/tweeting. Happy to grow a beard to appear Victorian but would never use a straight razor to keep themselves tidy. Every era has it's youth image, my era had goths and grunge but never has one been as reviled as the hipster.
Punks, goths, emos were all about rebellion and counterculture. Hipsters are the conformist consumer attempt at an image. I don't know why, but I hate them. |

Can you give me some examples? The way the term's used sometimes, it seems to just refer to people who listen to alternative music and whose sense of fashion differs from the mainstream. Doesn't sound that bad, but perhaps there's more to it?
(Lest anyone think I'm defending them or that I am one, I should point out that I've never been cool and have no fashion sense whatsoever. But I do have a beard, of sorts, and I do think Bon Iver are good.) _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Interesting. Certainly the population seems centred round the inner northern burbs, the closest they've got to me is Heidelberg.
David, have a look at the article, it seems to define them as people who desperately try to be uncool. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Lol, we're hardly talking a scholarly analysis hereas much as I've enjoyed some of Rosewarne's writing, I doubt she knows anything more about hipsters than I do. Which is very little. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

hah.
Try this. Left wing, Green, beard, ride an old fashioned bicycle even though they can afford a decent one, dress like they are broke and get their clothes from Op Shops even though they can afford to buy good stuff.
You're not a hipster, you don't have an affectation for trying to be "uncool", you just are. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Wokko, I'm not sure immaturity or dickiness at worst quite warrants hate! Each to his own, surely. Most people are just trying to make their way in an often harsh world. _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

If I ever found myself dressing like the dickwad with the tea cosy on his head, someone please kick my arse for me.
From the definition of Norm Core in the article, I'm already there. Jeans, Tshirt, something on feet. I've been there for 30 years. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
