I agree The Boy Who Cried Wolf! Hardness and constant man-on-man footy is the way to go against a side like Hawthorn who are great users of the ball.
I also agree with you Member. We leave the Hawks players loose far too often when we play them. We need to tighten up and make them accountable with every possession they have. We'll find out in just under two months whether we're up to the task of matching it with Hawthorn. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

the only logical replacement, should Buckley choose to go, was outcoached today... |

After a lot of doubts over the off-season about Bucks' coaching capabilities I've really been won over by our performances in the last few weeks! His game plan is starting to become clear and concise and it's most importantly winning us games at the moment.
The Bucks extension in hindsight looks like a good one now _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

I think now the debate is close to over. I hear the jury is just about to deliver a positive verdict about Bucks. After the Carlton match they will hand it down - looks like it will be unanimous too. _________________ Rain or hail, I wag my tail |

That'll be a "no", then.
More seriously, it was reasonable to have doubts after we had dropped from 2nd to 8th in two seasons, and were then massacred in Rd 1. I expressed doubts (doubts, not certainties) then, but I also argued that long-term thinking was one of the great strengths of the McGuire administration, and that they were right to commit to Bucks as a man with all of the right qualities to succeed. It is now coming faster than I expected, to be honest. Long term thinking usually works better in the short-term than short-term thinking does. Ask Carlton, and Michael Voss and James Hird. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

just be careful folks, premierships are not won overnight. as Digger from the Coodabeens said do not underestimate the forces stacked against us.
we have seen a successful coaching handover at Sydney, and a God knows what that was at Essendon.
it is hard to see us winning it in the last 3 years, even with Barassi and Norm Smith at the peak of their powers at the helm, given our subordinate status to Hawthorn and to a lesser extent Geelong, our injury list, and the retirement of some genuine stars - Didak Johnson and Jolley. We are still in transition.
It breaks my heart to see what happened last night, I genuinely love Malthouse for what he did at Collingwood and with a half decent team he could be up their contending, instead of patching holes on the Titanic.
the last quarter showed that this team has a long way to go before it will ruthlessly dispose of teams the way Geelong and Hawthorn do, but that is part of the journey. |
