Watching this pan out will be very interesting.

World of riches at heart of $165m payroll ‘scam

The massive investigation of an alleged $165 million rort that has ensnared a major tax boss and two of his children has also reportedly roped in other high-ranking government officials.

Australian Taxation Office assistant commissioners Tony Poulakis and Scott Burrows were yesterday stood down without pay as the Australian Federal Police announced nine people had been charged.

It is understood the claim is that the pair, along with ATO deputy commissioner Michael Cranston, tried to access confidential information as the investigation tightened on the players allegedly involved in an alleged tax evasion so big it could be one of the worst white-collar crimes in Australia’s history if proved in court.

While I'm happy for the thugs and swindlers in the union movement to be held to account the really big financial criminals will always be readily associated with those in the white collar.

Trouble is unlike the union bully it's far easier to hide between the lines of financial reports.

I can't wait until Malcolm calls for a Royal commission into the corporate sector and we unearth the truly big players.

If you want to see financial criminals wait until a Royal Commission into the Financial sector goes ahead. The lawyers will make this amount look like a pittance. Look at your bank statements and you already know who the crooks are.

Deputy ATO commissioner Michael Cranston resigns following fraud charges

The deputy ATO commissioner Michael Cranston has resigned after being formally charged in connection with a $130 million fraud.

Mr Cranston is not alleged to have known about the fraud, but is accused of using his position to help his son Adam Cranston, who is being investigated over the matter.

The deputy commissioner was earlier suspended, but has now chosen to resign, effective immediately.

He is the 11th person to be charged in connection to the alleged syndicate, which is accused of using taxpayers' money to fund lavish lifestyles.

Among the things on their shopping list was 25 motor vehicles, $15 million in bank accounts, 18 residential properties, firearms and two aircrafts.

Gees that is bloody disgusting.
Can some one tell us just what social problem or dept could be fixed with that amount of money?

Deserves double punishment, (using thief public position) immediate freeze of assets and accounts, and loss of all suspect assets completely. And pay back every cent.
