Holger is out as Socceroos coach, after the national side went down 6:0 to France overnight. I guess once it was funny (Brazil beat Australia 6:0 at the last start) but twice is unforgiveable. They've had 19 goals put past them in the last 4 games, which is seriously dreadful. The rot had to stop before we started being uncompetitive against Tahiti and - God forbid! - New Zealand. |

We are 1/10 of the 2006 side, but knowing our limitations in quality we should be able to manage ourselves defensively to limit our losses.
Two 6-0's is not good enough, no matter the quality of opposition.
We need to aim for better than this. |

I think you've hit the nail on the head there. Nothing against Lucas Neill himself but when players of his era are still getting a game it means the youth haven't been putting enough pressure on them at the selection table. Aussie soccer is in an unusual state at the moment. The A League has never been stronger but the National Team is on the slide. _________________ Bob Rose....the measuring stick of humanity |

Guus did state his intentions recently about wanting to coach in the 2014 World Cup so there's a chance we might bring him back as coach, but apparently there are other candidates ahead of him though. Even Guus can't coach us in 2014, then I wouldn't mind having Ange Postecoglou do the job even though he's coaching Melbourne Victory at the moment.
Holger Osieck had to leave because the results we've produced lately have been really poor. Even our games in the World Cup qualification were uninspiring to say the least.
Even with a new coach I feel that we are going to struggle next year in Brazil because our squad balance is quite poor. Our best players are players that were peaking during the 2006 World Cup and are now in there 30s and we haven't been able to develop a lot of excellent replacements for the likes of Neill, Bresciano and Cahill. We have a few good youngsters coming through such as Kruse, Oar and Irvine (maybe I'm a little biased with Irvine since I went to school with him and he was a very talented player when I was playing with him), but overall we're struggling at the moment on a national level. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

Looks like it's down to 3 locals ... Ange Postecoglou, Graham Arnold and Tony Popovic. _________________ Bob Rose....the measuring stick of humanity |

If I was the FFA I'd appoint Ange Postecoglou.
Arnold coached the Socceroos briefly after Guus Hiddink left and before Pim Verbeek became the new manager, and I wasn't that overly impressed with him when he was the caretaker manager, but he's done well at the Central Coast in the A-League.
Popovic is an interesting one. He did really well at Western Sydney last season, but I don't know whether he can handle the top managerial job of Australian football. I feel that with more experience and presence, Ange is suited best to the job out of the three candidates. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023
