Post subject: Chapman worth a late draft Pick ??
|
Considering he is an amazing and proven Finals performer, when it counts, -if we lose Daisy, more cap room- do you think the Cats Chapman would be worth a late draft pick, say on a one/two year deal ? Just asking. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

I brought this up in the Draft forum and was reminded that we got rid of Dids because we didn't need older players.... Go figure.... |

Pass, and nothing to do with "older" players.... it's about having players on the list who will impact our next flag attempt, and as Dids demonstrated this season, he was a long way down the pecking order of best 22 selection... Chappie would be even further down, we shouldn't retain or recruit players as "depth" at the expense of someone who "could" be best 22. |

I said this on DTM forum, but I'll repeat it again:
Chapman has been a great player for Geelong, but his age won't give many teams inspiration to pick him up and he's too injury prone as well. He only played about 5 games for Geelong this year so I'd overlook him. We need to look at the long-term rather than the short-term.
If we were to pursue him, it would be a kick in the teeth for Didak as well. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023

What would an old chapman bring to the table that we actually need? I can't think of anything other than experience, and our kids won't get experience playing in the VFL. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Somebody who can kick 4 goals in a final?
Some much needed hardness, mongrel and big body?
Old yeah, injury prone, yes, but not without some useful qualities. _________________ "Hey Ma get off the dang roof!" |

If we felt we could win a flag in the next year or 2, absolutely. Be like adding Jolly in 2010 for instant success, when you have a gap and on the brink then top up with experienced, proven performers |

I would give Paul Chapman a 2 year contract yesterday. Even though he is an older player and now copping his share of injuries you can never have enough players of his quality on your list. Given we have lost so much experience in the past two seasons bringing him across along with his knowledge of how to play a forward role given our lack of forward structure should be seen as a major positive.
He is a dangerous individual and big time performer, strong over the ball and of mind. I am sure he still has footy left in him and yes he may miss 6 weeks or so during the year with soft tissue but I can live with that. Would rather a player of his stature on our list than proven useless list cloggers like Clarke, Paine, Mooney, hell....we even recruited in duds like Russell and old man Lynch for gods sake, we are not above recruiting older players.
Get him! _________________ RED "BABY" CAVANAUGH: Didn't hear what the bet was.

Could be our 2014 Stuart Dew. I'd say if there's a spot on the list and we're going to grab a 173 cm midget with pick 50ish anyway then grab Chappy instead. |

And I'll say the same thing here.
No thanks. Too old, too slow, and as bad as young as trying to get on the field.
Didak would have been as good and more reliable injury wise. Recruiting chapman would make no sense.
It won't happen. _________________ No Pressure, No Diamonds
