Post subject: Collingwood v Essendon first week of the finals | |

Richmond, Collingwood and Essendon each have 52 points. We're behind Richmond on percentage but we're unlikely to catch them, even if we beat both WCE and North. Why? Richmond plays GWS and Essendon.
I think that Essendon's shot and I doubt they'll beat either Carlton or Richmond. Port is on 48 points but they play Freo and Carlton. If they win both they will go higher than eighth but I can't see them beating Freo this week.
So, if we can't overtake Richmond and get to fifth and if Essendon can't overtake us (unless they have a sudden and unexpected revivial) then we finish sixth and Essendon finishes seventh.
Collingwood will play Essendon in the first week of the finals. Lock it in! |

More likely is we jump Richmond, Carlton wins their last 2, Collingwood plays Carlton and Essendon plays Richmond and the AFL jump for joy. If Carlton look like making the 8 after this week by winning and Port losing, then Essendon will not receive any sanctions for this season as the AFL would love to have the big 4 Victorian teams in the finals for the first time in a bloody long time and all play each other week 1? What a money spinner for the AFL
The other good part is AFL gets 2 sellouts at the MCG and Hawthorn have a massive whinge as they get shunted to Etihad to play Freo because Geelong v Sydney is a bigger drawing game |

All vagaries considered, it does look the most likely result that we will face (and pulverize) the hapless Bummers in week one.
Nothing would make me happier than ending their 2013......... except maybe doing the same to the Scum. |
